Hey all,
I haven't seen this posted on here, if so I apologize. But It looks like you can buy Cornwell tools online now, from their website. This might be old news, if so I am sorry. Just I thought I would let you all know.

well, I went back to the website, I was going to post a link. They must have changed the format of the online catalog, when I was on it, it looked like it was set up to buy online. I'm real sorry guys, I should have been more observant before posting.

Archaic and foolish business model. I have no dealer, so no chance to even try their product. Have no idea how those unicorns stay in business!:lol:

truck auction in Long Island had 3 ex-Cornwell trucks for sale , no dealers within 30 miles of NYC which is one of the busiest markets in the US

A buddy of mine is a Cornwell dealer. He's busy around here and needs some help. Lots of interest for Cornwell product from his truck. I think its more that he is making an effort to be a good dealer than some of his competitors.

Snap-On gives their dealers a cut of their online sales.

Not to mention Cornwell is a far smaller company and employee owned at that so its really hard to expect them to be equal.

You aren't missing anything, lesser quality than snap on and not a lot cheaper and that's if you have a dealer that can stay in business.

Back in the day, each branch warehouse split the warehouse cash sales among the dealers, but since they went franchise, I have heard this is no longer the case.

I agree that Cornwell needs to get into online sales and figure a commission plan for the local dealer (if there is one). I have some Cornwell 3/8" USA impacts and a couple of their torque wrenches (CDI) and they are nice tools. Unfortunately, I don't work in a shop so I'm restricted to ebay to buy their tools. 9 times out of 10, I would rather just buy from Snap On because they make it easy for me to do so.

For that matter how do I go about getting my torx sockets warrantied? I contacted their warranty department by email and received no reply. Anyone here a Cornwell distributor that can assist?

Everyone at work that has bought cornwell in the past has either traded in the tools or is using them till they break or get lost. The way Cornwell dealers fail it doesn't pay to buy them as there's no support after the sale.

So is there really no way for me to get them replaced or is it just not convenient?

apparently not that convienent

and i was looking through the catalog and flyer and saw a few items i wanted

figured a $200 order paid for by cc would interest a dealer

I have a friend who was a Matco dealer from 1980-94 and has been with Cornwell since then. A good dealer is a good dealer no matter what brand he sells.

Don't waste your time with email, you really need to pick up the phone to get anywhere. I forgot, I also own a master Torx set from Cornwell; they are made by VIM.

I like talking to them over the phone they always take the time to help me out; alas no buying over the phone but they will give you the nearest driver in your area.

I never really tried to warranty what I broke as I traded most of their stuff away and only have a few odd tools left.

The Snap On on line store has a questionaire you have to fill in to join. The purpose is to determine if you are a pro that should be buying from a truck, or if you are a hobbiest that should buy on line. Since I am the later, the widget told me to go ahead and buy on line. I don't remember being asked to designate a dealer, but I did receive a Chistmas e-card from a Snap On dealer I have never heard of. It would be interesting to see the Snap On business model to see how all this stuff relates to each other.

Well I will be damned. I contacted them by phone after the suggestion of this thread. They gave me an address to send my sockets to. I sent off my old broken torx sockets. Today I received 3 brand new replacements for my 3 broken torx sockets. Awesome.

what mystifies me is why people pay full price on tool trucks when a great deal of their inventory is available new on ebay for ~50% of truck price! :dunno:

Why buy anything from any small business and support the local economy? We can all just use ebay. :dunno:

The Snap On dealers get the proceeds from the online sales. Depending on which zip code the buyer is in designates which dealer gets the proceeds. It's foolproof and it can't hurt the dealers. Cornwell should do it.

It's all a matter of preference. There's some specific tools I like better from Cornwell. I like the shape of their ratchet handles and I also like the shape of their wrenches.
