Was just wondering if you bought SO sockets in a set is cheaper than buying individually? Off the truck that is.

The sets are generally the same price as all the individual socket prices combined. You do miss out on the flimsy magnetic tray they use now for packaging sets though!

When I got my Snap-On punches and chisels (maybe 12 years ago) I ordered every single piece in the biggest set including the tool roll individually, My dealer thought I was nuts but I had already crunched the numbers. It saved me almost 40 bucks. Sometimes you can save a little but most times not, you just have to compare case by case.

Unless on special, the tool tuck set pricing is the sum of their pieces. Unlike sears, there is no price benefit to buying a set that's not on special.

I always tried to hold off on set purchases off the truck until they were running a special. Sometimes it saved a decent chunk of change, other times it cost the same as buying the pieces individually but I got some form of swag out of the deal.

Nope, they are the exact same price as piecing everything together individually. I was looking at the STARTERSET5, since I would like to buy a 3/8 Snap-on socket set, ratchet, and some extensions. I was hoping that the set would save enough for a free extension or two. I added all the pieces up individually, and it was the same price, down to the penny.

Works For SNAP ON #1
Snap-On Inc.'s SNA +1.47% first-quarter earnings rose 26% as the tool maker booked a double-digit increase in tool sales, along with higher commercial and industrial segment sales.

The company controls a big chunk of the professional tool market, where it competes with Stanley Black & Decker Inc.'s SWK +3.97% Mac Tools unit and Danaher Corp.'s DHR +1.52% Matco. Snap-On gets more than half its sales from the U.S. and from the auto sector, but has sought growth in emerging markets and higher-margin segments such as power generation and aerospace.

The company, which offers its products and services in more than 130 countries, has seen sales improve in recent quarters.

Snap-On reported a profit of $71 million, or $1.21 a share, up from $56.2 million, or 96 cents a share, a year earlier. Net sales increased 6% to $735.2 million. Excluding currency impacts, organic sales were up 7%.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were expecting earnings of $1.16 a share on revenue of $737 million.

The company's commercial and industrial segment sales rose 5.2%, while the tools group's sales climbed 12%. Meanwhile, sales in the repair systems group edged down 0.4%.

Gross margin narrowed to 47.3% from 47.7%.

Shares closed Wednesday at $59.65 and were inactive premarket. The stock is up 18% this year.

I absolutely HATE the new trays they sell with the socket sets. I am used to the good hard durable trays with size numbers printed on them right next to the corresponding socket.
