Its an island, you order everything in.

Remember the air disaster, KLM 747 attempting to take off collided with a PanAm 747 taxiing on the runway in heavy fog? Thats Tenerife.

Hi Nev! Bad luck!

Much of Tenerife consists of resorts. There's nothing much of use sold there at all!

There are a few areas that cater for the locals needs. I don't know really know those parts of Tenerife, but I have spent time on Gran Canaria and there are a couple of places selling tools, but little of quality! Power tools, yes (there's a good margin) but few decent hand tools.

I get the impression that all the Canary Islands, much like the rest of Spain, are suffering in the recession and there isn't a lot of spare cash! You might think that industry will be busy, but the only big industry on the islands is really tourism!

Take what you can with you, and be prepared to order in the rest from the mainland!

That is the biggest load of rubbish ever, not helpful and not accurate. There are loads of hardware stores all over the island which can supply you with tools at reasonable prices, Bosch, Makita, Dewalt, Hitachi, you name it you can get it here.

I wrote it as I found it.

When I spent time in Tenerife I was more than aware it was tax free, so was hoping to find a few bargains on the tool front to bring back, but I found pretty slim pickings.

Yes, there were power tools available, and yes, all the brands you mention, but that is only one type of tool, and the o.p. specifically mentioned hand tools. I didn’t find a huge number of hand tools, and certainly not much of quality. Usable -yes, GJ enthusiast quality - not much, and certainly not the selection of Spanish brands I had half hoped to find like Palmera or Irazola.

And that was 6 years ago, so I expect the OP has found what he wants by now, or imported It!
