Buying Tools on Amazon?

I was just wondering if anyone is with me on this, You pay 79 dollars a year for Amazon Prime. This enables you to free 2 day shipping on prime eligible items. Amazon has allot of good brands for sale, like Armstrong, Williams, Gearwrench, Grey Pneumatic, Bondhus, Wiha, Wera, Ingersoll rand, etc. So anyway you get cheap two day shipping on tools which are typically heavy. I think its definitely worth it and ive been ordering quite the amount of tools from Amazon lately and have been very happy.

So does anyone else use Amazon for allot of their tool purchases?

I am a huge fan of Amazon Prime. I do a large portion of both Christmas and other shopping on Amazon. Just like everything else, you have to comparison shop. You also get streaming movies, similar to Netflix. You also get $3.99 per item overnight shipping. Nice if you need something quickly. I have only bought a few tools on Amazon, but those transactions have gone well. Not a salesman for Amazon, but I have gotten my $79 back many, many times over from the free 2-day shipping (and not having to spend $25 for Super Saver shipping).

I've used amazon to buy a lot of different brands like you were saying Gear Wrench, Armstrong, IR, Chicago Pneumatic, Sunex ect. Im not an amazon prime member. But i always do the Free Super Savers Shipping which i think arrives within 7-10 business days which is fine for me. But I usually shop from Amazon & tooltopia

I have had an Amazon Prime account for a few years. I love it.
I buy a lot of items on Amazon. Many computer related items and office items.

The free two day shipping is great the option to have it overnight for only 3.99 helps out sometimes also.

I also use the PRIME INSTANT VIDEO that comes with the Prime account for FREE.

It is very similar to Netflix and doesn't cost anything extra.

Beware of Amazon Prime. They will bill your debit card without telling you. If your checking account drops below $79.00, your bank will slap you with a nice overdraft fee.

I tried AP program as a trial, but didn't see a benefit to it. So I just use their standard free shipping and skip paying them more money.

I've bought several tools from Amazon without any issues.

Note, however, that they don't "warranty" anything past the normal return period (30-days?). You have to find someone local for warranty work or mail the tool in to the manufacturer.

Just ordered a replacement Dewalt miter saw and a $115 blade from Amazon. I'm finding them more competitive on power tools lately.

That's why I always use a credit card for recurring stuff. I'm poor, and bad at remembering things, recurring charges from my checking account are bad.

I figure Prime saves me $80 a year in gas not going all over the place to try and find some hard to find item, or to grab some stupid thing I always forget, or making trips only to find out what I wanted was out of stock... not to mention Amazon's awesome prices. And $4 overnight shipping for things you actually need fast... that can pay for a good chunk of that $79 in one use if it bails your *** out. When I lived in OR, I bought a 9k winch and had them ship it overnight just for giggles. Cost me $4, showed up the next morning around 10am from PA, weighing about 90 pounds, the UPS driver had a good laugh on that one. :lol_hitti

That said, I haven't bought a bunch of tools from them. I got at least one of my air ratchets "used" (open box) from them, and my flexy Gearwrenches. They're pretty damn good on Apex brands and IR.

I've purchased a lot from Amazon, from a 55" Samsung LED TV to a CDI torque wrench, and just about everything in between. I've never paid shipping on anything I've purchased from them. Most purchases over $25.00 and shipped direct from Amazon qualifies for free standard shipping. If I find something under $25.00, I'll just add a second needed item to my order and get the free shipping. It has to be sold directly by Amazon though, but usually Amazon has better pricing than their dealers that sell through Amazon anyway. I can't imagine anyone needing everything they order delivered with two day service, but to each his own.

I have bought a few tools from Amazon. I am a Prime member and I think it is worth it. I cancelled my Netflix as their selection is pretty bad. AP selection isn't that much better, but hey have enough stuff. I do a lot of other shopping(christmas, bdays, misc electronics) and the Free Standard / $3.99 Two day shipping is great. Sometimes I feel a bit guilty checking that $3.99 shipping box, not because I need it in that time, but I "want" it #firstworldproblems. I also enjoy their free book rentals with my Kindle :)

Nearly all of my tools are from Amazon. If you are looking for something specific, search the brand followed by the item number. They have the popular items from the major tool catalogs and then some. They have the lowest price 99% of the time. Anything I can't get from there I look around on the web. I buy from Amazon because most other distributors have stupidly high markups, sometimes 100% or more than the price on Amazon.

Of course don't forget to check out our local distributors here and on ebay. They have good prices as well.

I like using Amazon for comparing prices. I still prefer places like tooltopia or thetoolwarehouse.net that offer free shipping on orders over $75-$99 for ordering though.

Hmm, I can recall multiple emails telling me that my prime membership was about to be renewed automatically and if I didn't want that to happen follow this link. Didn't seem particularly hard but then again some people don't ever read their emails.

As far as pricing goes I have been buying less and less from Amazon as I can often buy stuff cheaper elsewhere. Example being last night I read Bulls thread about late night shopping and decided to finally order the stuff I had been looking at to get into reloading. Only two of the items were competitive to buy from Amazon rather than from Grafs. Now if I had need something this second Amazon still wins with $3.99 overnight shipping but otherwise I shop around.

I am also finding myself shopping more and more at amazon. I have the student prime account which is free for 6 months. Prices are competitive AND they sometimes price match other reputable online vendors.

I buy EVERYTHING from Amazon. I have AP, and use it. I'm talkin tools to toilet paper to printer toner-(office supplies, kitchen supplies, bedding, socks, electronics and gadgets, etc. It is almost always cheaper, and I don't have to drive to the store. My time and gas is way more than $79 bucks a year. And as some one else said, $3.99 overnight, yes please when in a pinch.

I've had very good luck with Amazon. I've bought tools from a compound miter saw and table to a set of screwdrivers.

If I buy on line I don't pay state or local sales tax.

I've got relatives who live all over the USA and it is great for gift wrapping and shipping presents.

One time I sent my son something in Maryland and it "disappeared" from the reception desk at his building. He called Amazon and the item was expressed ship to him for arrival the next day. Turns out the desk released the package to another honest resident. My son got two packages and Amazon sent him a shipping code to return one of the products. He was prepared to have to deal with a ton of issues but he had none.

Like computers, the internet and cell phones - - - I wish I'd thought up this business model and developed it.

I don't do AP only because I've never really looked at it before. Some of my college age kids have it because their students and they buy and ship stuff. I think college students get it for free or have some special deal.

One of my kids buys all of her non-perishable food, soap, sundaries on Amazon and it is delivered to her condo. Eliminates the need for shopping trips and she says the prices are much cheaper than her regular stores and the product selection is better.

I think with gas prices, parking and time restraints I'll be looking at Amazon a lot for more purchases.

I travel a good bit with my job and sometimes I will have items (printers, wireless routers, office supplies, snacks, tools, etc.) shipped to the out of state job so it is there waiting for me when I arrive. I learned this trick from a friend of mine who needed "standard" tools on job. He'd bought a lot of his new tools and had them shipped to the out of state job site so they'd be there when he arrived. He could track their arrival by the shipping data supplied by Amazon.

Like all good things, I suspect Amazon has flaws but so far for me, it has worked well.

I have Prime - its great. You get streaming movies (almost don't need Netflix) and free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight.

When I was working on a project I needed to weld a buddies part and I didn't have a welder. Hopped on Amazon, bought a Hobart Handler 140 for a better price than anywhere else AND had it overnight for $3.99!

After it expires they offer you a student prime account for $40 a year for Max of 4 years. I have it and it's great

I love Amazon but can't justify Prime. I don't buy enough to save the $79 annual fee nor do I usually need anything expedited. If my order is <$25 I can usually find some filler to get it >$25 for the free shipping.

I've been using Amazon Prime for years now--I think it's great. I live in a rural area and usually it's a lot easier, and most of the time cheaper, to have something delivered. As far as tools go, I usually look for deals on DeWalt and other things like that--usually the hand tool brands I buy (Channellock and Klein) are cheaper at Home Depot. However, Home Depot doesn't carry the full line of either of those companies. *shrug*
