Found a used snap on tool box on Craigslist for $900. Well long story short seller fails to provide me with a serial number after asking for it numerous times he said the box was purchased reposed from a snap on dealer. He does have a paid off receipt of the box.

Here is a pic of the box it's the classic 60.

900.00 for a 2500.00 box is pretty good... Why he wont give you a serial number though is weird... If you want it, go check it out and get the number there and call Snap-On and ask about it?

Seen it happen man get the numbers and call snap on. If you take it in to a shop for work and its repos and has money owed on it you'll be out the box and your cash.

The owner has a paid receipt for the box so what is the issue? As for a box being repossessed, Snap On isn't going to repo a tool box. They will go after the delinquent person.

And the serial number, sorry, but for one, I'm not sure where it would be and two, I don't think i would give it out either. If I am selling a tool box or even a lawn mower or snowmobile, I've never been asked for a serial number, nor have I ever asked for one if i am the buyer.

If you are so paranoid about buying used, buy a new box.

wrong. People keep saying this and its 100% false. They cannot take a tool box back that has been resold. Its a Snap-On man, not the police.

First, the debt, which is all that matters, is on the original owner. Second, in order to repo the box that has been re-sold privately they'd need legal standing. It is 100% in the wrong for any tool truck man to walk into a place of business or home and try to repo a box that has been privately re-sold.

People watch too much TV. Repo man, Airplane repo, school bus repo, RV repo, lizard towing (or something close to that).

SnapOn credit will go after the person, not the box. If you are late on a sofa payment you bought from JC Penny's, is Penny's going to come into your house and repo it? I skipped my Kenmore stove and fridge payment.....Sears isn't going to knock down your door to take back the stove and fridge.....

you're far from the only one to make that erroneous claim. Fact is Snap-On finance agreements does not give them unlimited legal rights on the box. If the guy cant make payments on a box he financed and resells it and tells snap-on to stuff it then they've basically defaulted on the loan and Snap-On goes after the person for the debt. They don't care about the box in the least. For dealers it sure makes things easier to settle debts by reclaiming tools/boxes (certainly if the alternative is getting nothing) but they don't have the legal right to do it.

Also last time I checked snap-on credit does not track balances on boxes via their serial number, that's only for registration/warranty purposes. They also wont inform you of the credit standings of another customer, past or present. If it has its original bill of sale, great. If it doesn't but they say its paid off, buy it. Once you do its yours whether the guy lied or not.

Snap-on does repo their boxes by the way. Ive seen it twice. But for the most part they are right. They wont take the box from u. If joe schmoe u bought the box off of defaulted on the loan. Now if the loan is for alot of money and you clearly knew the box wasnt paid for. Expect to be in court along with the guy u bought to box off of. But i wouldnt worry about it.

For me, it wouldnt matter if its stolen or credit owing, if I can get a good deal I would toss the cash and wouldnt look back, but thats me

Looking to sell box

I got a matco tool box off a snap on guy and i just have no use for the box anmore. I dont want to just give it back and lose money and cant seem to sell it but i found someone who wanted fo trade some equipment for it. My concern is can i make the trade and keep making payments on the box without an issue or having to let the snap on guy know? Most questions ive seen have been about being in default and i dont plan on stopping payments and ruining my credit. So is this case okay or will i have any issues? Thanks
