My Backyard Buddy was purchased 15 years ago and I recently had some issues with the safety catches. Bought the upgrade kit along with new pulley axles with zerk fittings. My brother and I installed the new parts and it is well worth the time and money.

Remember, I said this BYB is 15 years old and It is not a lock "problem". The original control rods were 1/4" and the replacements are 3/8" square tubing that attatch to the locking dogs with 3/8" bolts instead of a ninty degree bend and a fast nut. Too, the springs that retract the locking dogs were worn out and were replaced with new ones. The new pulley axles now have zerk fittings.

Please don't construe this post as a knock on BYB. The fact that they offer upgrades for older units is a plus in my book. For all I know, units bought in the last five years may have all of these features that I installed on my 15 year old unit.
