I have an old MW 17" drill press / router shaper, and the motor stops every so often and I was told the speed circuit board is junk and should be replaced with a variable 20 amp transformer after bypassing the circuit board but keeping the on/off switch. Just wondering if its worth it, or if it will work. I don't use the router/ shaper part..only the drill press. Only reason I want to keep it is the distance from drill bit to column is 8 1/2 inches. Thanks Dave
