Hello again, found the next little project...actually a few minutes away from the house on craigslist..

Its a wilton C-1 everything looks pretty sweet so far...the swivel handle have a slight bend to them, but thats not a big issue...

overall real nice I think, havent taken it down yet though...doesnt appear to be pounded on much if at all...

So I realize its not a real old vise by the styling of it, but still was excited to pull out the slide and attempt to look at the date stamp..so excited, i did all my errands / chores / ate a sandwich instead of a meal, so I could hurry up and get out to the garage...

much to my dismay, I was rewarded with a sideways #8...LOL

vise is marked 111277, have no clue of the year range for that number...figured I'd ask here since someone always seem to have the answer I need here :) any clues???

anyhow, here are pics

also looking to source a wilton emblem / decal that will fit in the cutaway in the front of the dynamic jaw, the shield type..any help with that would be greatly appreciated as well, looked on Wilton website and only saw the rectangle decals...

thanks again

Joby: my guess is your vise is newer than 1970's and probably an 80's vise especially with that sideways 8 on the slide. sometimes you needs to use a little simple green or WD 40 on a rag and some elbow grease to get the date stamp to show.

also if you want the label i don't have any, but some of the members might have so post up more pictures on the main vises of garage journal thread and ask your questions there. also try to see if you can find some more #'s on the slide to post.

nice find and i think the C series vises are Wiltons best made ones.

congrats

thanks...

Still fighting with the dust cap on this vice..soaked it AND heated it,,not budging yet.,

Took everything else down cept the nut/ rear end..

There is a little more rust on the thing than I thought, in the base and especially inside the pipe jaw area..
I am hoping this cap is not rusted too much on the inside of the vise, since its being difficult..dont want to blow a hole in it :)

Joby: I've taken a few stubborn dust caps out by using a small wood or aluminum dowel and putting it through the vise nut from the open side of the vise if you have the dynamic jaw off already. then a couple nice taps with a hammer and so far i haven't put a hole in one or damage it too bad.

if you do end up putting a hole in it or damaging it a $2 freeze plug in silver or brass or a wheel bearing cover from ETrailer.com works good as a replacement.

good luck

any luck with a small maybe 1/2 inch wood doweling? yes a nail might not be a good thing to punch a stuck dust cap cover off with.

also did you use some simple green or scrub a little harder to find you date stamp?

here's a blown up view of a Wilton so you'll have some idea if you want to take it apart. there are several wilton restorations on the vise repair 101 thread and if you want to add yours with any questions you might get more help there.

cheers
