C-clamp storage?

I recently built a wall bracket for storing bar clamps that I am quite happy with. The acquisition of some new tools has me wanting to free up some drawer space and my C-clamps seem like they should go onto a wall rack. Anyone come up with a design that stores multiple sizes of C-clamps in a compact area on a wall bracket? Show me some inspiration, please.

I have only a couple of C-clamps....I use mostly wood and bar clamps.

If I was going to make a rack for it, I think it would be something I could slide the t-handle into. That way your not confined as to how far open the clamp is.

I don't know about you, but all of my C clamps (well, all the ones larger than 1.5" at least) come with a built-in wall mounting clamp that attaches to my studs. ;)

Ok, it's not the most convenient, and doesn't allow for spacing closer than the handle width, but it works well enough for me since I can reach the ceiling under my loft.

Here's what I did, for compact storage and keep them where needed.

I don't have mine on a wall as wall space is at a premium. I have my C-clamps and vise grip clamps hanging under my fabrication table.

a bit embarrassed on how simple and brilliant of an idea this is. Thanks for posting it. I am gonna be looking but would be interested to see examples if someone has done this.

I don't have a pick handy but in my old shop I used a couple of cheap towel bars to hold my C and bar clamps. In my current shop they're in a jumbled mess in a large cardboard box waiting for me to build the wall that the towel bar will mount to.

My woodworking shop is in the basement. I put together a U shaped rack using pipe, elbows and a couple pipe flanges and fastened it to the ceiling.

Do you have a length of angle iron or an old bed frame rail? Just mount on the wall and set your clamps on it. Easy, peasy.

Most of mine are 4" & 6" and live in the drawer of the tool box.

I have a couple of 8" clamps and they hand on a bicycle hook by the pipe clamps.

All my clamps, welding 'vice grip' types, long and short, C clamps, f-clamps, pipe clamps etc reside on a slat wall. Just stuck up there any old way now with a bunch of other things I took out of tool boxes. It'll get reorganized, when pigs fly, or a little sooner maybe.

I like to hang c-clamps horizontally. If I were building a support it would be similar to this one.

However, I have pegboard on my walls and I use two heavy-duty pegboard hooks like these to hang c-clamps horizontally. The size and number of clamps determine the length of the two hooks and their spacing.

I was searching for a solution to free up space myself. Just used black pipe / elbows / flange mounts.

Ate up some of my more “useless” rafter storage also.

That is a really interesting thought. I will be thinking about how that might work for me.

Dadgum - here I went to all the trouble of covering all my studs with sheetrock!

Here's what I did, for compact storage and keep them where needed.

Nice job. I like those flat brackets.

I don't have mine on a wall as wall space is at a premium. I have my C-clamps and vise grip clamps hanging under my fabrication table.

That is another great solution. Unfortunately, I don't have room for the fab table.

That wood peg idea has some promise, thanks for posting.

Lots of great ideas have been posted. Thank you one and all. This is what I built for my bar clamps:
bar clamp rack 6 r.jpg
I have C-clamps ranging from 1" to 8" (1 of each) and mostly 2" and 3" clamps. I had in mind that I wanted to make something that would fit below the left side of the bar clamp rack. I have been cognitively locked into wanting to duplicate the benefits of the bar clamp rack - very compact storage, clamps can't flop from side to side, handles different sizes and different types (standard and quick). These ideas are helping consider other ways to approach the problem.

I've been reading this with interest, because I've been searching the web occasionally for a couple of years trying to find a reasonable solution. I have a few hundred clamps. Some quite large. I have a reasonable rack for the F clamps. C clamps I've arrived at sorted by size, somewhat, in a half dozen milk crates.

Kevin's rack is the only one that I've seen that has any efficiency for more than a handfull of clamps. I might explore it, and see if I can make one that will hold mine. I doubt it would take up more floor space than my crates do.

I have a bench with the frame made of angle iron and just hang them on a side angle iron about 18" off the floor. I hang them with the screw up so they don't get knocked off easily. But I don't have zillions of clamps like some here do...

I have most of mine hanging from overhead shelves, but a few are also in drawers of tool cabinets.

Glad for this thread, pushed me into at least thinking about storage again. I need it. To see what the magnitude of the problem is, I pulled out all the 4" and bigger clamps and racked them to measure how much space I need. A minimum of 10 feet of rack will work, 12 would be better plus probably another 3 feet for the less than 4" clamps. I wish it was yard sale season (probably deferred for another year at this point) so I could find something already made. But, I've got rectangular tubing and pipe, will probably weld up one.

Easiest is a metal drum. Find one about 20-30 gallon capacity and just hang the clamps around the periphery. Hard to move but also hard to knock over. Bar clamps can go in the middle.

Same, in like a weird 1/4 chunk. Works good but if I'm slamming on something I lose the bigger F clamps.

I put mine on pegboard. The c clamps fit nice on hooks and the bar clamps I hung on hooks as well.

Just remember, with bed-frame steel, it’s hardened and you’d need a drill press and a special bit. Drill press so you don’t break the expensive bit. Or you can weld tabs with holes to it. It’s great stuff, strong and light, welds fine. Don’t saw it, either; use cutting wheels.

I don't have a ton of clamps so a small section of the wall stores my bar clamps above and c / hand clamps below. the c clamp rack is made with wood and a 1/4" rod.

Need a better spot for the bandsaw though!
