I noticed at my local Sears that 3/8 deep sockets were only etched, not stamped around the base. Whereas the regular size 3/8 sockets were both etched and stamped with size.

Is my store just clearing out old stock on etch-only deeps? Or does C-man not etch & stamp the deeps (yet)?

I just warrantied (3) broken 1/2" drive 12 point deep sockets (2 metric and 1 sae) over the weekend at my local Sears.
The 3 new ones were both etched and stamped. That's my recent experience.

The dual marked sockets that have a large gold etched size marking along with the traditional size and manufacturing information engraved or stamped around the base are fairly new. The Sears in my area seem to have the dual marked in the more common sizes that they sell quickly in shallow and deep versions. It will probably take awhile for existing stock of the older types to be sold off and then you might see nothing but, dual marked sockets. However, I'm sure to keep costs down, you may find the non dual marked sockets in special sale sets for quite awhile.

Sounds right.

So has anyone seen/own a 3/8 drive deep, that has dual markings?

The newest set I bought out of the catalog had dual markings on 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 sockets. The lazer etching seems smaller on the new dual marked.

The 3 I spoke of above do not have any gold on them. They have the "old" markings on the bottom and the etched square about halfway up is just etched on the chrome.
The etch is quite easy to see and read but it does blend in very well.

I was at a local Sears this morning picking up a couple of sale items, and they had complete 1/4, and 3/8 drive sets in shallow and deep with the dual markings hanging on the display rack. They also had several dual marked individual sockets too. It's too bad they don't place two of the gold high vis size markings on the socket 180 dgress apart for easier identification but, then that would too closely resemble a Matco socket.
