I really like the pro screwdrivers alot... but i can't understand why they can't press the shaft in straight with the handle? I know it isn't that big of a problem, but still. Is this a common issue? Anyone fix them?

I had a full set of them at one time plus longs plus picks and mini-screwdrivers. All of mine were straight. They are made unusually however. Instead of having the blade just pressed into the handle the blades have a very hard plastic cylinder, about 1/2" in diameter, molded around them. Then the plastic cylinder/blade assembly is pressed into the softer handle body.

I guess if the blade isn't perfectly straight when the cylinder is formed they could be crooked. I don't think you would be able to fix it because those things are impossible to take apart.

I honestly can't remember ever seeing a crooked one. I'd take it back and swap it out personally.

I haven't seen a "bent" one either. They've my favorite screwdrivers, and have held up rather well since I got them. I'd just take it back.

They just kind of passed through my tool set. I thought I needed to have a second set of tools but I didn't so I sold all of them. I only had them for three weeks and didn't hardly use them at all but while I had them they were very nice. I'm sure they'll be great for you.

Don't have the screwdrivers but I picked up a Torx driver set for $10 around Christmas time last year. The dude at the counter was blown away that they were on clearance. I think they're great, no crooked shanks.

Are these the ones with the red/grey handles?

Hate the damn things!!

I much prefered the previous black hard handles & pick them up whenever I see some for sale. The real ******** pisser is that if the black hard handles get returned under warranty they give me that red/grey **** instead...

If you buy any of the larger screwdrivers (12" and up) you will see some bent ones. Half the time the shaft is off...

I dont see much difference between them in terms of useability. I have a torx set of the old style Pros and I have a full set of the new style. I prefer the new ones. The old ones were unique with their hex shaft though.

I have many of them in both the old and new style. I feel there is a definate quality increase with the new red/black over the old all black units though I hear some people like the older ones better. The very old one were clear handled and I have little experience with them. My snap-on set is a little bit better, but the Craftsman pros are great and are definately profesional quality. fantastic value and a huge increase in usability over the regular ones.

I have had a few of the old black ones and the basic ones, as well as some of the Instinct soft handles... and these are pretty sweet in the hand. For around 8 dollars they are very tempting. Thanks for the reviews, makes me feel better about them.

I have 11 of them (new red/black ones), and they have all been straight. Great drivers.

I picked up a phillips Craftsman pro from a garage sale. It was when they were black. It was bent badly. Paid $1 for it, then exchanged it at Sears for a new one.

Aside from that, I love the Pro quality screwdrivers from Sears. They hold up a whole lot better than the regulars..

While we are on this topic, is Sears getting rid of the Cman pro screwdriver line? I notice that they have less and less of a selection, especially online.

I wouldn't think so. My local Sears hasn't gotten rid of any of it so far. As for online, I never check their stuff online so I wouldn't know. It would certainly be a surprise to me.

I second that on the new red/black style vs. the original black. Although most of mine are the all black ones, one (the biggest flat head they make) did happen to break so I was able to get my mits on a new style one. Almost feels like a Wiha. Speaking of the C-Pro line getting kinda thin, I have not seen the pliers or adjustable wrenches at either of the Sears in my area, ***** cuz I was about halfway through getting the whole collection.

I am pretty sure that they have gotten rid of their Cman pro pliers and adjustable wrenches, thats why i figured the screwdrivers were probably next. There are no more pliers or adjustables left on the wall at my local Sears, just standard line and some crescent pro ****. Those Cman pro beak jaw adjustable wrenches were amazing too.

The local joint has all the Pro stuff on clearance right now, ~50-60% off IIRC. I think the screwdrivers are here to stay for a while, given their relative popularity. No one collects them or worships them like Snap-On, but they sure can't hate on the quality of them either. Good reviews all around.

Just to give a differing view, I had bad luck with my Craftsman Pro Screwdrivers (Red/Black ones). I had two Phillips tips practically disintegrate with just mild use. They were both from the same set so it is very possible it was just a bad batch. After I ruined those two, I purchased a Williams set and that is now my go-to set. The CMPro set, including the warranty replacements, were relegated to the trunk tool set. So I can't say whether the replacements are of better quality and mine were just anomalies. It was disappointing, since I had bought the CMPros specifically because I wanted "good" screwdriver set.

Given the number of positive reviews, I'm inclined to think I was just unlucky. I usually don't give Craftsman the benefit of the doubt nowadays, but lots of folks like these. But just as a data point, not everybody has been satisfied with these screwdrivers.

I was told Sears is discontinuing the entire Professional series of tools by a sales associate. Very limited selection left in my local store.
I have upgraded to Pro screwdrivers from the regular Craftsman ones. Just much better quality. I prefer the older black ones, though. The look ofthe new red/black ones is great, though.

I hope not, but I did see plenty of Pro screwdrivers on closeout on Sears website

Why would they close them out? Because they want them gone........They have no more stock in the store of Pro pliers......Replaced by Channel Lock and Knipex pliers they sell now. Not such a bad change, some may argue.

I have a couple red/black pro drivers, I like them. I will have to start checking my local sears and see if any are on clearance.
