Cabinet drawer build question / issue

Cabinet / drawer builders give me a hand.

So I bought 5 sets of the Blum 563H5330B drawer slides and was planning to use some left over 3/4" cabinet plywood to make the drawer box sides with 1/2" bottoms. These are for under our range top and under the double ovens, so potential to reach close to their 100# rating with cast iron cookware.

They are designed to be used with 1/2" - 5/8" thick sides.
Is that only due to the layout of the slide, locks, etc on the bottom of the drawer?
If I run the sides thru my table saw and rip off 1/8" so everything below the drawer bottom is 5/8" wouldn't that work?

The other issue I have is the one cabinet has door hinges that interfere with the top of the slide.
Is it as simple as trimming the slide to fit around the hinge with my dremel? I would still be able to install 1 screw into the frame at the front.

Yes ripping to 5/8" will work. For the slides you need to pack out so drawer is smaller than opening & hinge. This can be done with wood or they make a plastic spacer for this application.

Understood, so if I have to space it out I can side mount the slide and do away with the back bracket correct?
I have never built drawers before with the Blum slides or anything other than wood slides....AKA a box

Hope to have them built this weekend so the Boss can put away the rest of her new kitchen.

I assume it has to do with the width from the sliding part and the fixed part. One size allows for 1/2”-5/8” (which I bought) and the other size allows 5/8”-3/4”.

The drawer sides basically set between the stationary and moving parts of this style of slide.

I would put a space between the side and drawer slide. Cutting the drawer slide to fit around the hinge might leave your drawer hitting the hinge.

Blum (and all the rest of the bottom mount slides) reference the inside dimensions of the drawer box and the dimension of the opening. All the guidance regarding that sizing is based around the drawer side thickness. As long as the inside dimensions on the bottom of the drawer is 42mm smaller than the opening it will fit.

Just push the slides backwards. You don't need a pullout flush with the faceframe.

I will move forward with making spacers for the sides of the cabinet to bring the slide out as to not interfere with the hinge and side mount the outside slide to them. Vertical 2x spacers as there will be a second drawer mid cabinet height. I need to keep the slide out at the face frame as this cabinet has a center stile and the inside slide needs to mount to it, as their is nothing else to mount to at the front.

IF I had read closer I would have ordered those, but I have these and will make the modification to use them.

Used a couple 1.5" x1.5" spacers, glued and screwed to side of the cabinet to allow drawers/ sliding shelves to clear.

I was able to get all 11 sets of slides installed.
4 Drawers/Pull out shelves on this cabinet
6 Drawers on the reworked original cabinet
1 Drawer under the wall ovens

I gave up on reusing / modifying the 3/4" plywood scraps / left overs.
Making a Menards run tonight for some prefinished 1/2" & 1/4" plywood. Should only take me a sheet of each to build these drawers.

Just to much figuring and my test drawer build didn't go as planned, so scrapping that idea / plan.


FWIW: not only the side thickness matters, the face / front of the drawer does also. Using the 3/4" my doors did not close on the cabinet when the drawer was installed.
