Cabinet Height

I am by no means a carpenter so this is probably a stupid question...but I'm going to ask it anyway.

What sort of height do you guys go by between the top of your workbench and the bottom of any storage cabinets above your bench? What kind of distance between them do you find provides good working area and still be able to reach the shelves?

7' from the floor to the top of the cabinet.

Standard is 18 -20". As long as your uppers are standard 14" deep this works good.

depends on your height. IMHO you should be able to reach the top shelf without a ladder/stool. After that I set them as high as I can. You never know when you will need to work on something taller, and getting them up gives you a little extra room for an under cabinet light

If you want a good example go to your kitchen and copy the dimensions. Depends on how deep your workbench is also. Most kitchen counters are 24 inches deep. My workbench is 32 inches deep with 24 inches of pegboard on the wall and 12 inch deep open shelves above.

The top of my workbench is at 39 1/2" from the floor and is 29 1/2" deep. The bottom of my upper cabinets are at 22 1/2" above the workbench, they are themself 33"W X 17"D and 22" H.

The spacing between both suits me fine.
