Cabinet Shelf Liner?

I picked up some new gladiator cabinets, and before I put them to use I want to install some kind of shelf liner to protect the paint. I know what you're thinking, "tool polisher". Anyway, I have been leaning toward thin indoor/outdoor carpeting. I like this idea, but I'm having trouble finding a good way to hold it in place. I've also considered adhesive contact paper, but I like the carpeting better. Of course, I could also use drawer liner, but that's a bit more expensive. I'm open to other suggestions as well

If I go with the carpeting, I would like whatever I use to hold it down to be removable in the future, should I decide to replace or remove it. I could go with velco, magnetic strips, double sided tape, or something else. Any ideas on this?

I'm hoping to get this done tomorrow, so I'm looking for items that can be sourced locally!

I bought 3/32 neoprene sheeting for my tool boxes, and absolutely love the stuff. Sticks in the drawer well (without adhesive), tools stay in place on it, and it is smooth faced so it wipes down easy. Wasn't terribly expensive either, 48" wide sheet was $6-8 a foot IIRC.

Go to Lowes and get the black rubber ribbed floor runner. It's 36" wide and sold by the foot in the flooring department. It cuts easy and lays flat. Great for lining shelves and tool boxes.

Yes, that's the stuff. Very cheap and durable. I've lined all my toolboxes with it and it also makes a great top mat.

Damn, that's a great idea! My drawers already have the original liners which work fine but I may look to this down the road if I need to replace them. And this could be a great bench top solution as well. My HF 44" box came with a similar mat on top and now I have a suitable replacement should I ever need to do so. And I might get a piece to cover my new butcher block.

I picked up a roll of this when I got my first tool chest because it was cheap, but I've honestly not come across a better product. Its just tacky enough to keep your tools from sliding around, but not so much that its annoying.

That vinyl matting looks like a solid option too.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have some slightly tacky drawer liner in my toolbox similar to what was posted, but that wasn't what I wanted in the cabinets. I was looking for something things would slide easily on, since the cabinets are high on the wall and there isn't a need to hold things securely like in a drawer.

I still have to figure out the best way to secure it, but I picked up a couple products and will try them this weekend. I'll post some pics when it's all done.

Headline adhesive would work well, just spray it on the back of the carpet and then set it in
