I'm trying to plan out the cabinets for my work bench and ran into a small issue. The footings on the wall I want to place my work bench are like a step that measures anywhere from 5" to 8" tall depending on the slope of the floor and projects into the garage about 4". So, has anyone else dealt with this issue? Also, would my best bet be to notch the back of the cabinets to not waste space in my garage?

Thanks

When I do garage cabinets for customers, I usually put the cabinets right on the footing. 5-8" tall isnt too big. I try to put my cabinets at 6" anyways, so your're in that range. Your countertop height is now going to be 38" instead.... no biggie. (assuming you plan on 36" counter height)

I wouldn't notch it, as it wont be a perfect cut around the concrete, and you run the risk of it looking bush league with gaps.

I'm assuming that you just build boxes for the cabinets to sit on to match the footings?

Thanks for the help.

Nope. I usually bolt a 2x4 up against the studs, or concrete if the footing walls are flush with the interior walls. IF there is a 4" ledge like I'm understanding you have, then rest the cabinets on there. Its more than enough support if the cabinets are built properly.

I personally like floating cabinets. Easier to clean, dont worry about water issues, or animals nesting behind a toe kick. And looks professional.
