How much you wanna spend? I found Saber cabinets to be a heck of a lot of bang for the buck, about 1/5th of what Baldhead wanted for similar cabinets. I'm sure Baldheads are better quality but not THAT much better.

When it comes to custom garage solutions, there are obviously many types to choose from. The criteria I would go by (depending on your budget) would be to make sure they are WALL-mounted. Reason being you want cleaning your floors to be as easy and hassle-free as possible. You also want them to be fully-backed.

Some great ways to work with designs is to have a mixture between open and closed shelving, looking into wall storage systems like slatwall / gridwall, and some places even offer workbenches that matches the design.

After that, then I would look into finishes and colors. There many different types so you'll just have to see what's available in your area first and check out different garage storage companies.

After looking at all sorts of options and looking at my space and what I want to accomplish I decided it was best to build my own.

I can make em out of metal but I am gonna go with wood this time. I think it will work better for me

Personally if I was in that budget range, I would look at Vidmar, Lista, StrongHold. More industrial for sure.

If you are going to weld you want metal. If you are going to mess them up anyway with flying chunks of metal, sparks, grinder wheels, go used office furniture. It's cheap. Easy to find. And, I didn't cry when a grinder wheel put a huge dent in my $100 overhead the way you will when you put a tiny scratch in your $1000 overhead.

I found used kitchen cabinets for free, I also see used cabinets for sale frequently. Purchasing new cabinets for my garage never occurred to me. Seems building cabinets would be a reasonable garage project. I would use plywood.

Thanks all for the feedback. Budget is not unlimited.

I am thinking of powder coated metal as I have had bad e periences with mdf before on this application. Also, I prefer powder coated cabinets for longevity of finish. I am "building" a rolling island using 2 large tool chests and a butcher block I plan to build for the rougher jobs and welding.

Agree on the scratches, ...

Ideally, I can find a cabinet brand that I could also use for an outdoor kitchen.

As I have posted on other threads about cabinets, unless you definitely have to have metal, I have used the IKEA cabinets which are wood but I have found more sturdy and cheaper than some of the metal ones.
