Cabinets - Need Opinion

So I am building my own cabinets for my garage. I have the boxes built and am finished up the door frames. I am planning on leaving them bare wood, just applying a few coats of clear to them. I was planning on using pegboard as the infill for the doors and painting either red or hammered gray for the infilled panel. The second photo sort of gives an idea of what I was thinking. Each panel would have a theme, ford logo, chevy logo, etc.

But what would look better. Gray background with red logo, red background with gray logo, alternate every cabinet door panel, etc. Any thoughts if this is the wrong path altogether...

I'd go a white background, the symbols will stick out better.
Plus, it will help reflect more light.
As a quick test, draw something on the white board and hold your door frame over it.

I had thought about the red cabinet idea but I was trying to match the garage with the pine trim, but may have to reconsider it again. I am not a fan of white so was trying to avoid it and the space is bright as is. Appreciate the opinions so far, keep 'em coming!

As I was perusing GJ yesterday I read your thread. The red design on your peg board caught my eye. I had not seen it before and thought it was some type of dragon.

Then last night I'm watching my Kansas State basketball team play the Washington State Huskies (in Washington) and there is this huge red "dragon" on the middle of the court! I knew I had seen that somewhere and then I remembered your thread. So I had to check this morning to see if I was correct. Yep, there it is.

Great game by the way. That Thompson kid is something special. Must be the genes!

I see you clear-stained the benches down below. Still, I'd at least think about painting the ones up above -- otherwise they might make the room seem quite a bit smaller. (That said, I don't know if this is a big or small garage, so that might not be an issue.

A lot of guys see painting wood as a waste of something beautiful, and I understand that. But if is a garage is going to get dirty, then a light-colored stain is going to start to look dirty, over time, and it's not as simple to sand and re-stain as it is to slap on another coat of paint.

So my (against-the-grain) vote would be white frames, light gray doors and then the logo however you like.

And even though those benches down below look great, I might eventually sand them down and paint them too, just for long-term maintenance ease.

All that said, the garage looks awesome. Very nicely done.

depends on what you're gonna be doing in the garage,
is it going to be a working garage/shop ?
paint is the answer
a mancave, hangout, or party place?
stain and finish as you would in the house.

It's a Factory Five roadster I finished about 5 years ago.

The garage is more a show room that an actual garage. Not very big 21'x21', but I have an attached shop of similar dimensions that I use for all the messy stuff.

Here's what it looked like a year ago, it's changed a lot since this picture, but gives a better idea of the overall garage.

I built mine in the second half of a friends two car garage. I lived in his basement. After car was built, bought the house. Then got married. Then built the garage. Priorities.

I meant the cabinets. Next Spring I'm planning trying to sell the roadster to build a Type 65 Coupe.

If I could, I would build a GTM, but their final price tag is a little too much for me. Coupe would be okay, but I sure like my Roadster.

Have you been in a GTM? Very nice looking car. A guy around here has one and it's really tight inside. My head rests on the roll bar. A helmet would make it really cramped. Also the costs is so much higher. But if you want to play I guess you have to pay. I really like the Coupe and the GTM but it's just out of my budget.
