Cabinets!!

I have painted this same type of cabinet. I rolled it with Rustoleum International orange and used a brush to paint the glass door frames. You just need to scuff it, rustoleum covers great. I painted the inside black to offset the orange.

You think a scuff pad will do a good enough job? I'm guess I would want a course one and I could use some paper to get out the deeper scratches

Yes, you can use scotch pads. The red ones are the roughest and work the best. you can use the green but they are finer... Just use #220 grit sandpaper to scuff it up, it's the cheapest way.

Yah sand paper is cheaper but scuff pads make it easy. Thanks for the tips! I'm curious to see how long this will take.

Wow - I agree that you should buy them all. Those are primo cabinets and you can sell them for a hefty profit. If you were not all the way across the continent I would snag them myself.

Did you notice on the back of the glass cabinets their is a hole on both sides towards the top and the bottom? It looks like a metal rod goes in there to hang these off of a beveled 1x4? Thoughts?

Yah I saw the 5' wide ones and the shorter ones but I went with 4' full height ones. My fav one has one half a full height cabinet and the other side 3 medium sized drawers but I think I got the last one

Pickings are slim in his building. He says he has plenty in storage though. Just give him a call a day before so he can bring some out for you to choose from. BTW, he is a nice guy to do business with.

I'd leave them as is and not paint them, but that is me. Even with some scratches you are not likely going to better the paint job that is already there. They probably survived 50 years with the paint on them now. The time in your garage will be a piece of cake.

I just took all the metal doors off and started scuffing. I know if I don't paint them I will just be walking by them everyday and imagine how good they look bright red lol.

just got back from a 250 mile round trip to pick up 4 cabinets and 5 bottoms and it was well worth the trip Mike was very helpful loading my trailer and got a few tops from his also great stuff

going to start building soon my 44 x 32 garage with an attached house and a 300 foot driveway

WTF??? Mike told my friend late Thursday afternoon he was out of tops. He called me Friday morning to tell me he was out. WTF? My money no good? I ******* hate this ****.....sorry guys, but I need to rant. I spoke with Mike Monday and made plans for Sat, he knew exactly what I needed, 4 of the top and bottoms .I called wed and everything was set. Now nothing. I'm really bummed...

Those are really nice cabinets, the lap in the plant where I work had the same ones in blue. When they remodeled recently I tried like hell to get as many as I could but being night shift I was not at the head of the line. I ended up with a 4' shelf (no doors), 2 two drawer file drawers and a single drawer that spanned the files drawers like a desk.
The 2 file drawer sections were incorporated into a workbench my dad built for himself. They are real sturdy ball bearing drawers, perfect for power tool storage.

I disassembled all of the upper cabinets and rolled on the first coat of rustoleom I am blown away how good it looks with one coat and a roller!! The ones on the floor are taking a while to dry from the cold air coming up from the concrete floor. Don;t mind my 400whp exige in the background

It's rustoleoum high performance out of the can.. Color is safety red inspired by Darrk... You thin it out with mineral spirits and roll it on with a foam roller.. It will look like **** at first.. The bubbles will pop and it lays down flat. It does have orange peel but it hides imperfection. I used a red scuff pad and hit it good. You will want to blow it off and wipe it down with mineral spirits before painting just make sure it's dry...

What do you guys think on the outside cabinet color got the base units??? All red will look great but it might look wired with the off white internals.

How did you mount the wall cabinets?

My garage is block construction so it was a PIA. Since I was doing peg board in between the base and wall cabinets, I first installed a 2x4 horizontally at the 2 foot mark. This acted as a rest for the wall cabinets during the install. Also because of the block, I secured 2x6 at 45" long to the wall, top and bottom. Then I was able to lift the cabinet into place(by myself) and secure them to the 2x6's with #12 screws through pre-drilled holes. It was no fun, thats for sure.
