So me and my dad are building an extension on our garage to house the CNC, so that we can have the other part back to actually work on the lawn mower, and keep the snow blower inside, in the winter. question for the masses

our garage right now is 17x20 with a 8 foot sliding door at the front, and there will be a 4ft wide cut out in the back now to walk through to the new addition of 17x14. Yes i know it's nothing big but it will do us for what we need. but i wish i could put a 2 post hoist in just don't have the ceiling height.

Looking for ideas to keep things in cabinets, what have you guys done, i have a tool box i just bought it's 48" Husky and dad has a 24" Snap On but looking for ideas on DIY cabinets, or if you where building something new, what would you have done differently to make it more useful.

Best thing I did was buy a few vidmars. Got lucky and paid 150 to 350 and worth every penny. Wish I had them 20 years ago. Now I need less cabinets. One is dedicated to hardware and supplies and one I even use to store car parts as they are restored. You'll still want other cabinets, but Starting with A vidmar organizes a lot, fast.

My shop storage cabinets are mostly a combination of roll-away base and top cabinets, some re-purposed c/l kitchen wall cabinets, plus some industrial shelving and auto parts cabinets I bought at auction.

I bought a set of kitchen cabinets from a guy who was remodeling his house for $175. I painted them with laminate paint and added a laminate countertop ($300). The countertop could have been done cheaper though, with just thick plywood or something similar, or more durable by adding a sheet of steel over the ply.

I 2nd (or 3rd) the CList kitchen cabinets. I got a boatload of them for cheap... I'm still in the process of installation then will have to decide on whether to paint. Tops are likely to be hardwood flooring (installed unfinished then I'll sand/stain/seal). Anyway, lot's cheaper than purpose built garage cabinets and you can paint or modify easily, if you like the look.

It's been my experience that by adding a piece of masonite on top with a few countersunk screws works great. It can be replaced cheaply.
