Long time ago, when I worked in the truck dealership, we had a kit for making up air tank drain cords. Light cable and some smashable ferrules.

We also used them to tether stuff, like pins and clips, a key etc.

Anyone seen or have a kit they could recommend?

Haven't seen a kit. I buy 1/16" cable and aluminum ferrules at any home store. Add a bit of heat shrink to cover the ferrules and ends and it's remarkably handy stuff to have around.

Since cable that small is never going to be used for heavy loads, I just crimp them by hand. I rummaged around a bit and found a cheap no-name pair of heavy pliers in the back of my drawer with a crimper opening that happens to be perfect.

Probably not a practical solution but here are a couple pics of a vintage cabling tool. Kind of an unusual tool with "dies" for three cable diameters. I guess this was the old time solution for those times when you just need that perfect eye. This likely predates readily available ferrules. Ed.

Most of my stuff is Nicopress copper sleeves for 1/16" and up cables (McMaster Carr sourced) but the light duty thin aluminum sleeves can be put on with a Sta-Kon type crimping pliers, I prefer the Channellock version with the smooth jaw.
