I think I recall a thread about cable Damascus here on Garage Journal. I did a search and found a couple of mentions of it but couldn't find the thread I remember. It's possible Damascus was spelled differently. At any rate...

I have a 50' to 60' section of 3/4" cable I removed from our national forest and two sections of 1/2" cable that are maybe 15' to 20' each.

It is rusty cable so I assume it's not galvanized.

Is this the type of cable blade makers like for cable Damascus?

If I were to sell it is there a convenient length to cut it into to make storage easier but still appeal to those who want to forge their own cable Damascus?

Any idea on a fair asking price per foot for the 1/2" and 3/4" cable? I'm not looking to get rich but want to get a fair price to maybe offset the cost of some of the consumables I use to clean up our national forest.

Here is the 3/4" piece I dragged out today. Going to be sore tomorrow.

That's worth about 4 cents a pound at my local scrapyard. I don't know who that damacus dude is. Maybe he'll give you more.

just kidding, you want new cable, not rusty stuff. And people can usually buy new stuff at a scrapyard at 10 to 30 cents a pound.

The rust does indicate that it isn't galvanized, but it also will inhibit the forge welding. If I'm taking the time to make damascus, I wouldn't be starting with rusty scrap.
