Cable type hose clamp pliers

I killed mine last weekend after 20 years. They were the basic red handled ones that everyone sold back then.

Anything new and improved out there or should I just get another of the same?

I have the Mayhew as that was the non tool truck standard at the time. If I was buying one now I'd seriously consider the Astro

I've got the Astro 9409A that I've been using almost every day for the last year here in the shop.

I tried the Astro made Craftsman branded pliers. Although they work fine for most clamps, on larger clamps, the handles are spread apart quite a bit making you open your hand up all the way to squeeze the handles. I hand to use two hands to get enough leverage for large clamps like the one for the water pump hose.

There's been quite a few changes over the years. Cable wire diameter,, pawl tooth width, pliers head material type, jaw capacity or even in the last couple years: cable stopper design, knurled adjust nut to customize where you want the click points at or how far the jaws open.

Do you offer additional jaws for the 9409A? I bought that in 2012, but ran into an issue the other day that really required a larger jaw. I went searching and saw you released the 94093 last year which includes several jaws. But it looks like you changed how the wire is attached to the newer model so it's easy to swap jaws in and out. Maybe it's too much of a headache with the 9409A?

Not possible on the 9409A unfortunately, the 94093 is designed to take different assemblies which is why it can take multiple types. The 9409A is not.

I see that the specs show that the Astro 9409A fits 11/16" - 2-1/2" (18mm - 54mm) clamps. Will it absolutely not work for smaller clamps, or just not as well? I have several 12mm and 14mm clamps on my VW

They should still work in most cases, depending on how you adjust the adjustment screw the jaws can ratchet click all the way to a completely closed position.
