So I am getting a new roof installed in a couple of weeks. Did the last one with some help from family 20 years ago. I have rooftop antennas and was going to keep one and remove the other. I've had cable twice, dish network once and the aerials. It is amazing what a butcher job dish network did. Wires screwed to the siding around the house, over the house and to top it off they cut every cord that was for cable tv. What a mess

Yup, they can leave a mess. I got my first satellite dish in the mid 1990s (Dish Network). Back then you could buy the whole system as a homeowner-installed kit and I installed it myself, being careful with the shingles, cabling, etc. I took my time - added extra blocking in the attic, ran the coax neatly outside and inside, carefully sealed all building penetrations, etc.

Time went on and many years later I switched to DirectTV. I was told that homeowner-installation was a thing of the past and that they had to have their official installer mount it up. I don't like people stomping around on my roof so I met the guy when he arrived and persuaded him to let me install it (he honestly didn't care either way). It was really simple to install because of all the careful work I'd done the first time.

I no longer subscribe to either service, and when I re-roof in the next few years I'll remove the dish for good.

It ***** because they cut a cable on the outside of the house that ran through the attic to the other side of the house. They also cut a cable cord that ran to the downstairs. They cut that one on the inside of the house. It's in a tightspot behind the furnace and water heater were it must've been a bear just to run it in the first place but at least it was out of sight. I'm going to have to silicone caulk the 50 plus holes they used to screw clip the wire to the siding. Idiots.....well I'm the idiot for letting it happen

I have cable for internet....and we use an antenna for TV (i'm a cheap *******)

For my TV, the cable runs down inside the soffet of our fireplace to my 'data central'.
Cable goes to my garage....then into conduit over to my house and up that conduit to my 'data central'.

From there my cable and Ethernet goes all over the house.

The 'cable guy' is not allowed to touch anything in my house
