Cables on wall surface

I have a shed that is attached to the house. There are two 110-volt NM cables that now lie on the surface of what used to be the house's exterior wall. Siding was removed, so the cables are on the sheathing.

I was told by an "electrician" that I met at Home Depot that that is done all the time - because it is a limited-access, low traffic area.


One cable is for lights in the shed, plus a GFCI-protected outlet that powers battery chargers and outdoor low-voltage lighting. The second cable goes to an upper-floor bedroom to provide power to a small window air consitioner.


So, is it OK?

If not, can I enclose the cables in schedule 40 tubing and fittings? Would half-inch be OK, or should the tubing be three-quarter inch?

What about Wiremold channels?

Is any of the wire exposed to sunlight such as the line feedingthe AC? If so and IF the wire isnt UF-B(sunlight resistant/direct bury) then the UV rays will eventally break down the sheathing of the wire!

Actually, one cable is type UF, but it is not exposed to sunlight anymore.

There are two cables (one is just plain NM) inside a shed that is enclosed and dry. They run along what used to be an exterior wall. That wall is now enclosed in the shed. (The siding was removed, exposing the Homasote sheathing. The cables run on the sheathing.)

So, is it OK to have the two cables two cables run along the surface of the covered wall?

I may be expressing the question incorrectly.
