I want to make an adapter plate for a transmission that was never offered with a particular engine.

I have dimensioned drawings for the bellhousing patterns of both.

Some one already makes these things, but I figure to make a few improvements on a cad file and have the local laser cutting place crank it out.

Questions:

1- what kind of file output is needed to make a part?

2- does anyone out there want the job?

I’ve attached two dimensioned drawings and would add a written summary of my wants.

I figure it needs a total of 20 points added to 1.5 inch semi circle of 1/2” material.

Your thoughts please.

This is doable. I have done a few of these in my tenure.

Question 1...is a loaded question...

The "file output" required is totally dependent on what kind of Laser? Some will take a .nc file and others a .txt (Basic X, Y, Z and M&G Code). But I think what you are looking for is what kind of file can the geometry transferred to the Laser House so they can convert it to what the machine requires.

DXF is the simplest format or or if you want them to have the 3d Model there way more options.

Question 2...send me a PM with an email address and I will reach out to you with my email and you can send me what you have and I'll take a look at it. I enjoy doing these things and it increases my Cad Data Base for future projects.

Question...if you are adding a 1/2 inch between the Block and the Bell Housing how will you get 100% engagement of the input shaft to the Pilot Bearing in the case of a Manual Transmission or are you having a custom Torque Converter made in the case of an Automatic? Most adaptor Plates I have done are from 1/4 or at most 3/8 6061-T6 Aluminum. Again this is as long as the Bolt Hole Patterns don't overlap and we can use Pem Insert Nuts with out interference which has been the case so far.

1/2 Material is option if some of the Holes overlap a BH or Block Flange and some of the holes need to be tapped. An issue may arise if the adaptor plate is Aluminum...most Lasers in the 8-10KW range struggle with 1/2 Aluminum.

Some food for thought...either way send me that PM and I'll take a look at it.

Usually .dxf is what I send all my cad files off to laser/waterjet/plasma guys for the geometry and they import it into whatever software they use to write the code for their machines.

If for some reason 4 FN 27 cant get you taken care of give me a shout. I do design work for a living but dont do a lot of side work usually.

I send only dxf files and PDF prints for bends to my laser and waterjet companies. I did an LS to SBF adapter so a guy in a bronco could keep his manual 5 speed and t-case. Waterjet cut out the adapter AND have a crank spacer adapter made for the LS crank to SBF flywheel. Starter bolted to bellhousing so that was an easy fix after cutting/clearancing the block for starter.

1979 440 Dodge cube van with 12,000 miles.

8 mpg

10 would be great.

Adapter kits are too many compromises. Want my own.

Found slant 6 starter dimensions, all the same, so just need to locate starter within bounds of OD trans and 440 block.

Captain Chrysler? is that you from lost b bodies?
