Are cal-hawk tools (im asking specifically about sockets) worth a darn? Or just more china trash? Local tool store has a ton of them reasonably priced, but i can find very little on them. Are they worth the purchase, or leave em set?

Cal-Hawk is an offshore import from Asia.

If I was living in Oklahoma City, I'd drive down to Meridian Tool and see what sort of deals they might have on some US-made sockets.

I know they have killer prices on wrenches and nice ratchets - another member who's one of your neighbors there is shipping me some today.

I'm also interested in feedback/ratings for Cal-hawk. I'm debating on getting their deep e-torx sockets from Amazon or spending the extra for the Vim.

I bought a set of their SAE deep sockets at Steve's Tools in okc.

I later bought a set of the pittsburg metric sockets at Harbor Freight.

The Cal-hawk set is nicer....finish is smoother and they clean up easier.

I haven't used them everyday but I've had zero problems with either.

I have some Cal Hawk tools mostly large sized up to 1 1/2" and 38mm 1/2" drive deep chrome moly impact sockets. Beat on them all the time with my Milwaukee High Torque too. No issues.

Maybe have a few other things not sure what have to look can't remember. They used to be fairly prominent brand in some sections the Northeast for long time. A vendor at my local flea market stocked Cal Hawk for years in his big tool trailer until he retired out of the business and over the time when I traveled between Vermont and Southern Maine on a regular basis there were several "discount" stores along my journey that had various Cal Hawk products in their tool stock inventory.

Never had a problem with it general. And what there mostly was before HF starting their big push

a lot of Cal Hawk is sold at the various Carlisle car shows in PA. quite cheap, but not impressive to me...pliers, ratchets etc were very crude.

The are junk.. there is a store near my parent's place that sells them, for some reason my dad love to go there for odd things... they are basically junk on most of the stuff..

HF is a huge upgrade compare to this.

I've only really seen Cal-Hawks over at the flea markets or at roadside tool tents, which should be enough of a warning sign on its own. Most vendors trying to unload the stuff would try to convince you it's equivalent to what you'd buy off a tool truck, but the truth is it's more in line with HF's cheaper lines (Pittsburgh, Drill Master, etc.)- yet without any of the warranties those might have.

Cal-Hawk had their place around here, I guess, before HF came to town, but not so much now. There is one area, tho, they still have a purpose and that's their availability of inexpensive, larger-sized tools. I've seen crow foot wrenches, adjustable wrenches and regular sockets (among other things) in absolutely gargantuan sizes that you just won't find in HF, or any other budget-minded tool store.
