Yea, the shipping "calculator" in ebay uses www.usps.com quotes based on the weight (usually estimated by sellers) and adds a "handling" fee which is whatever the seller types in the box. IE a 1 lb item in reality might have been entered in as 1.5 lbs + a $3 packing/handling fee making it go from $6 to sip to $12.

2-3 day priority rates are usually within pennies of the parcel post rates. Parcel post can take as long as 2 weeks on average to arrive.

The average shipping on that ratchet should be around $7. One of the top 5 tips on EBay is keep shipping cheap(you will get more for your items)!

I don't look at the cost of shipping alone, I look at the cost of shipping and the item as a whole.

Example, I just bought a bosch ps20-2 driver on ebay.

$130 at lowes and home depot, no shipping
$67 on ebay, $19 shipping = $86.

Sure, $19 shipping is ridiculous, but the TOTAL is still $44 under Lowes or Home Depot, so who cares?

I've bought $70 items for $1 buy it now, and $50 shipping for a small thing. Is the shipping retarded? Yes, but that's still $19 off local price, so once again, who cares?

That's a good way of looking at it.

Yep, and personally, I think you were dead on with your previous comment. The high shipping scares others off, and you can sometimes score. I attributed paying $67 for that thing when the others are selling for over $100 on ebay, to the high shipping.

That's why you have two EBAY id's...one for buying and one for selling. When I am charged 15 bucks for shipping and it arrives in a 3.98 envelope...the seller get a big red NEG...of course I get one in return but it doesn't matter as a buyer on my buying id.

The one I get in return drops my feedback percentage. Others sellers will see this when I win thier auction (they can't block me because I snipe everything) and may thing twice about overcharging me.

High shipping costs= additional profits for inflated packaging and handling....

IMHO, that's dirty, you AGREED to that price. Unless they state they only make you pay actual shipping, and it shows up for less than you paid, you have no leg to stand on. If it just says $15 shipping with no other claims, and you buy it, you signed a contract.

Now if it says "buyer pays actual shipping" and they charge $15, and it shows up for $3.98, that's completely different.

Guess what? When I sell on ebay, I usually tack $2-5 on the shipping calculator, because it's notorious for being low when I go to ship an item. If you don't like the shipping price, don't buy the item to begin with.

I've sold things for $15 shipping, and only paid $13 shipping. Hey, I said $15, that's what we agreed to. Tough, I'm keeping it. I've sold things for $15 shipping, and ended up paying $20 to ship it. Hey, that's what we agreed to, tough for me, I'm eating the $5.

On a few rare occasions, I've ended up LOSING money on what I sold. The price the item has sold for has been less than the difference between stated shipping, and actual shipping. Oh well, I ship it anyway, not their fault.

fault.

It's actually more dirty to charge $15 for $4 of actual shipping....they are hiding something. I hide absolutely nothing when I NEG em. They know exactly why I did it...says so right in the comments.

Yes I did agree to the shipping...yes I pay for It. I don't ask for my money back ...therefore I don't need a leg to stand on as I am not contesting anything.

They can keep my money and my NEG for all I care.

BTW...my feedback on my buying account is at 67%...slowly rising...I haven't been jacked around in a while now. I have had sellers actually lower the price of shipping at he end of the auction just to avoid any nasties...hehe...I guess I could say my theory works somewhat.

Seller's should be required to enter feedback as soon as they are paid, not waiting to see what feedback THEY received and then responding in kind. I report any seller who tries to hold my feedback hostage when I am dissatisfied with a transaction.

Maybe, but then again you have those buyers that complain about what they were charged after they bought the item.

I sold a camera, said it was broken, didn't know why (it was my dad's that he had in 'nam, hadn't been used for 20 years). The guy that bought it left me negative feedback because he couldn't fix it, when the auction clearly stated it was BROKEN.

I got an email back from the seller saying he's willing to go with a flat rate of $8.95. That'll help me raise my maximum bid. :)

When I sell on there I charge for the insurance and delivery confirmation + packaging charges. And I'm within a dollar of the total. The total depends on the weight.
