calculating how much stone I need

I am finally starting my 18' x 24' garage build.

I feel foolish not knowing how to calculate the amount of stone I will need for the inside perimeter of the monolithic slab, everywhere else I can calculate how much I need us.



Any assistance in calculating this.

Also, how much stone should I add to the amount I need to compensate for the compaction of the stone to be at the 6 inches of height? I will be using a narrow plate come compactor centrifugal force of 3550 lb.

LxWxH? >>cu yards. compaction, 10-20% (probably too much, but depends on what 'stone' you are asking about) Excess onto wherever you will be placing the driveway, later, after all construction is done.

Thank you, hopefully I fixed the image issue.
Maybe I am just over thinking this calculation because of it being sloped? Like a parallelogram.

I will be using #2 stone.

That area you hatched is approximately 0.75 SF, then multiply by liner feet to get your volume of stone. The easiest way to calculate that is to break it up into a triangle at each end and a rectangle in the middle. You will need to use some trigonometry to determine some lengths not given. I cheated since I am already in the middle of using CAD so I just redrew that area to find out.

Yup. The variability based on the physical job site will far surpass and calculation errors.



0.75 x linear feet sounds fine

I calculate the volume of stone needed and then add about 20% for compaction. Never been off by much.

Most stone yards will ask what your application is and look at their cheat sheet.

Ayuh,.... 18' x 24', / 2, / 27 = 8yds,...

Get 12 yards, 'n you'll have alittle bit of stone left over,...

If yer supplier sells by the ton, that's 'bout 15 tons,....
