Alright so i posted a thread about picking a compressor, got alot of great info and opinions.truly apreciate it. after taking time and thinking it out, i could affored the quincy but for my needs i didnt need it. the HF unit while nice is currently over priced. so i settled on the lowes kobalt 60gal 2 stage made by cambell hausfeld. went at looked at the floor model, looked decent built, even though pump and motor is made in china. but the out put was more than i needed so i made the choice. but the ratings on the floor model and rating on line didnt match. so i called campell and they comfirmed the floor modes ratings were correct.a week later (today) i placed my online order roll of 10/2 wire 30 amp breaker and the compressor with the extended 3 yr warranty(6 yr totall now)767 out the door! great! went to go pick every thing up, after they loaded it on my truck i took the box off it to look to securing points. to my suprise the ratings on the one they loaded were what was posted on line. 7.6 cfm at 175 psi and the 10.7 the floor model and campbell said it was. after getting managers involved it appears lowes has 2 different 60 gal compressors with same part number floating around. ended up getting the floor model loaded on my truck after some talking. going to call campbell monday to verify every thing is correct other wise its going back. got it wired up today though and broke it in. runs smooth and very quiet. we will see how this story turns out

I'd make sure Lowe's gives you a good discount on the floor model.

no discount, i was leary about it. people do dumb things thought for sure the thing was going to be full of pocket change. whats weird is the the first one they loaded was dated early 2019. this floor model is dated 1/22/20 and is in much better shape

well got it half a** wired in , just to break the pump in. not sure where im going to plumb it in the shop yet. did test some tools and im not impressed. my 1/2 IR impact will drop the tank from 175psi to 90 in no time, thing keeps running struggling to keep at 90psi till i let off. 7cfm for my impact, 11cfm compressor rating should keep up correct? may have to drain the tank and time how long fill is. hopfully it gets better as the rings wear in,other wise its going back and im getting the quincy!

alright so last night after break in, it took about 11.5 minutes to fill from empty to 175psi. 8scfm ball park. today i ran it for 1 hour with no load, two 30 minute intervals. up to 10minutes on fill time, which puts it in the 9-9.5 scfm range. it rated for 11cfm at 90psi and 10.7 at 175psi. calling cambell hausfeld monday. not to happy. starting to kick my self for not just dropping the coin on a quincy

That output seems awfully low for a 2 stage unit
I've had single stage pumps do better than that

Sorry the box store Chinese unit didn't work out as expected but at least it seems like they are going to do the right thing. Thanks for sharing the lesson with others and post some pics when you get the replacement (Quincy) installed.

Caleb, where do you live? The ratings are at sea level. If you live in Denver for instance this isn't an indication of a problem.

I have the Harbor Freight unit, 2 stage.. It will fill from zero to 155, in 5 1/2 mins, when the pressure drops while using it, takes 1 minute and 20 seconds to get back to 155.. Not a Quincy but it runs my blast cabinet with zero issue

i dont do body work, just auto repair. figured the 11cfm rating on the kobalt would be more than enough for my needs. thats why i went for it. lesson learned

upstate NY, about 1500 ft above sea level. if you seen the amount of air leaking its no wonder why it didnt keep up. i could have it fixed, but i figure for a new unit to have these issues, whats it going to be like a year from now
