I want to calibrate all of my tire gauges to see which ones are right and how much the others are off by. Where can I get a master gauge that won't break the bank and what gauge should I get?

I think snap on has a racing tire gauge that's supposed to be accurate within +/-1% around $70

Seems like a waste. When you're serious about tracking a car you take temperature readings across the tire with a probe. You're looking for even temps outside, inside and center. That means your alignment and pressure is good. Maybe for drag racing raw psi is a useful piece of info? I have no clue about that stuff, drag racing is all Greek to me.

The cheap ones can be 5 pounds off. Any gauage will be ok because it will give you the same reading on all 4 tires. I always over inflate by a few pound. It makes for a stiffer ride in my Town Cars but I get better gas and ware milage. When it is snow and ice out I drop the pressure a couple of pounds under. I have never had snow tires. I do have chains but I seldom use the. I use them when going up in the mountians in California. They are manditory at times. I never get stuck. Just lucky.

This doesn't make sense.... Middle of tire will heat up fast from being heavy on the gas or brakes, outside of tire heats up from turning, but then the WHOLE tire heats up from carcus flex (most important thing) and surface heat isn't accurate and drops off QUICK so you better come flying into hot pit and have someone there with probe to get your work done.

I will point out I don't have experiance in the car racing world but I do own a race school and teach & licence people to race sport bikes on road course tracks. There in motorcyle world PSI is king, temps can be useful to identify issues but mostly everything can be identified by reading the tire and looking at your tire gauge so it better be a good one....

My 2 cents

Order a regular liquid-filled pressure gauge from McMaster. Cheap and you can set it up however you want.
