It's very unusual for a DMM to "go out" for no reason. Before messing with that adjustment you should install a fresh battery, clean the battery contacts & lead sockets with swabs & iso alcohol. Rotate the selector switch stop to stop several times. Tap the meter on the table while monitoring a voltage reading to see if the display changes due to loose internal wire, pcb connection or crack.
If after all that it's still off, then adjust it--but first go stop-to-stop a few times on that adjustment pot too in case oxidation has crept in.
