Do y'all have an opinion on the 5 or 8 gallon air compressor that
They make? Not much air tool need just tires and air cleaning the shop.
Thank you as always for your help.

I've got an aluminum dual tank 4.6 gallon and love it. Great for tires and nailers. Runs out of air very quickly with a blow gun, but it is light enough and quiet enough that the capacity is worth the trade off for me.

Haven't tried an impact, but don't think it would do all that well

I've got the 5510SE and it's been a great little compressor. I use it mostly for tires and a blow nozzle, though I've used it with a brad nailer and it does just fine there as well. I have also used it with an air impact just to try it out and it works fine but you do have to wait for the recharge often because the tank is not very large.

I made a video about it back when I got it 2 years ago and it's got a pretty good demonstration of how quiet it is and how long it takes to charge:

It's pretty unbelievable how nice it is to be out in the shop with it running. Especially if you're coming from one of the really cheapo air compressors that are insanely loud. I particularly like it because I almost always end up working on stuff at like 11PM and I have no worries going out and running the compressor with the garage door open that late.

I run an impact off a 4 gal double stack and it is not that bad. They are only used in short bursts. There are far bigger air hogs.

I have the 4610a Husky clone Home Depot sold a couple years ago around holiday time. Works pretty well, decently quiet, cheap fittings and piping everywhere though. I still have a leak that I've not been able to track down and stop.

I have been using a 10020C which is a 10 gallon 2hp ultra quiet unit. I have been very satisfied with it. Lots of air and extremely quiet.

While it was not the intended use, it did come in very handy as my son and I worked on the restoration of a 1970 Nova. I was careful in selecting air tools that were lighter on air consumption and was able to run a body saw, a small angle grinder with 2" sanding pads for weld preparation, and a small belt sander. While it was not ideal, I was able to manage.

With that project behind me, I believe this compressor will fit the vast majority of my needs. I would suggest you take a look while you are doing your research.

I've got the 5510A. I love how quiet and light it is. I got a deal on it as as a fix it job. The pumps are nice but most of the compressor is very low end hardware. For light duty air gun and tire inflation work it's fine but it doesn't take much to out run it. If you can get one, the larger 10020 doesn't compromise air flow and 10 gallons can give you some usable time with a cut of wheel or the like.

Another satisfied customer - I have both the 2hp 10gal and 1hp 5.5 gal and really love the quiet, build quality, speed, price. The 120v models are very well priced - the 240v makes sense if you're going 2hp but theres a decent bump in price.
