Coat Hangers...

Am I wrong for that?

Same here. Guys that are having issues with the cheap ones you get from the dry cleaners; hotels have some pretty nice hangers that are a little more heavy duty. They will never miss one coat hanger. :) And they're usually chrome, for a little added rust prevention.

I use metal clothes hangers. Easily malleable to the accommodate lots of caliper and to adjust height if needed. I also made some out of pieces of rod about 2x the diameter of the clothes hanger for hanging heavier objects. The ones I'm not using double as hangers for my bags of zip ties and nitrile gloves on the side of my toolbox.

I run the OTC ones. How much is your time worth to save 8 bucks on making your own? Those things are great, but i can see how a professional can forget about them and leave them in a wheel well during a brake job.

It took literally 5 seconds for me to make two cuts with my diagonals on the clothes hangers and bend them. It took you longer than that to order them, walk into a store, or onto a tool truck(doubt you got them there or the price would have been jacked up more than $8) to get the one you have. Not to mention your wait time for shipping if ordered..

I got by for ten years just fine with a piece of Romex before the clothes hangers.

I bought a set of the yellow made in USA ones. I was thinking back to replacing my roommates wheel hub and having the caliper fall on me a billion times. I've gotta do all my brakes soon on my car and don't want a repeat.

I have the OTC set. I have no complaints about them, but I am just as likely to use some Romex scrap or whatever is handy.

Caliper hangers just arrived. MISSION AUTOMOTIVE sticker on them. They seem nice enough for what they are but they are pretty bare bones. Also there's a little coating missing where they were obviously hung while sprayed/dipped. I'm getting ready to head out to the garage and give them a try.

I put together a little video in case anyone was wondering how they work. You might think, why do you need a video about something so stupid and simple? Well are they really that simple and clear? Misconceptions can happen anywhere. Enjoy!
