Then I found this 6 piece Mac set. It costs more than the 18 pc

Is it likely that all these 18 piece sets are imported from Taiwan and maybe the 6 piece was Made in U.S.A. ?

Incidentally HF also has an 11 piece set http://www.harborfreight.com/disc-brake-pad-and-caliper-service-tool-kit-11-pc-63264.html for $49.99

Snap On does not seem to offer an 18 piece set, only a Blue Point 7 piece set YA8610B for $306 (Made in U.S.A.) This appears to be similar to the Schley

It shocked me that Matco was nearly 1/2 the cost of the Mac set.

I got it on Amazon Warehouse Deals for a decent savings. I've used it a few times and it works very well as I expect almost all of the kits do. It's a pretty simple concept. I do like that this one has a ton of adapters. The only bad thing is the blow mold case is horrible, it's pretty much guaranteed to be a disaster inside every time I open it with adapters flying all over the place but it really doesn't hurt the functionality. I do like that I'm covered with drum tools now as well. I don't expect I'll ever own a car with drum brakes but since I'm perpetually working on other people's cars I thought it couldn't hurt.

I second the Astro kits on Amazon. I have the 78618 set, slightly smaller than the one above, but for home use I have no issues with it. It's an import, but Astro does have a good presence on the forum.

There may have been changes since I bought mine but the ! was identical to the AP set, for less money. There was a smooth spot on the box for a foil label. One said a AP and the other had one of the HF brands on it. Same exact set.

The matco and Cornwell and both relabeled astro kits use with adjustable wrench on some brakes

And the mac is the older screw in caliper design I believe sp tools or schley tools makes those for them and blue point used to offer these as well as matco

Our manufacturer doesn't make HF's, but on a tool set this simple you'll find little difference between all the different manufacturers. The only thing worth looking out for is if the drive bolts are 1-piece or 2-piece pinned together. The 2-piece drive bolts tools always come apart eventually.

when i first started to play with cars i rented an "OEM" brand one from autozone, or advanced auto parts, i kept it for a week, so i had it 2 weekends, ended up doing 2 other brake jobs over those 2 weekends. tool had already payed for itself at that point. i never returned it, still have it today. it gets professional use now a days and it still works perfect

On our most recent batch I had these swivel clips added with some foam in the middle of the case to take up some slack:

On future batches I'm going to use foam and new tooling so all the pieces naturally fit much more snug.

Once the most recent batch comes in I can send you one. Waiting for the future run may take quite awhile as we only make these a handful of times a year. But you can wait if you prefer.

Thanks, that is good to know. This was a while ago when yours was in a red box. Thanks for the tech info on bolt construction. I have some of your other products and am very satisfied.

I picked up the HF one earlier this year to do a buddy's Grnd Prix and used it on my kids Malibu a few weeks ago. worked just fine. it's a pretty simple tool, not much to go wrong. and it does have both drivers. Not sure what you would gain buying an expensive tool truck brand on something so simple.

before that I just used an adjustable pin wrench. was slow but still did the job.
