Apparently a new scam out there..you caller ID shows your own number

Another one the telelmarketers do now is they somehow have a local number displayed, that isn't theirs.

Caller ID spoofing has been around for ten years or so.

Yup, Used by telemarketers and scammers all the time to hide their identity. Makes it pretty much impossible to report them for violating the do not call list since the numbers are fake and you cant call them back.

I've even gotten a few where "911" showed on the caller ID and when I answered it was a recording about an error with my TurboTax filing and asking me to leave a message with all of my personal info. I knew its a scam because I didnt use TurboTax.

if you do get those calls then answer it and say hold on just a second,put the phone down quietly and go back to what you were doing,watching TV etc. Most will hang up after a minute or so,some of the stupider ones will hang on for 5 minutes. We led one on for 15 minutes,coming back and saying hes coming right back please wait. This keeps them from doing actual work and bothering 2 or 3 others.Plus its good therapy if you hate telemarketers as much as we do here.
