Hi Everyone,

Getting ready for "da pour" and finalizing selection on a concrete contractor. Looking for a quick sanity check on pricing. My project is a big one, 50x80 pole barn with 5" of 4000psi crete with Fiber 300 and 6x6 "10/10" mesh. In addition, I have a 30x50 approach that will be the same 5", 4000psi etc..

So a total of 5500 sqft of concrete @ 5", Shop area hard troweled and sealed. Includes all control joints and two floor drains installed along with final grading and compaction for $21,500.

Anyone else mind sharing what you paid and your opinion here?

Location is Wisconsin

Thanks!

I paid around 10k for 6" in my 40x48, we did to about 8" where I'm doing my lift. And 2 parts of my enclosed 12x15 lean to @ 4". Also ended up with extra so we did 2 Slabs by my man doors, and in front of my overhead door.

That included prep, stone, etc

OP . . . that sounds like MASSIVE nice big shop !!

Pretty stout concrete setup, do you plan on heavy equipment driving in there ??

Any sections that will have Radiant Heat ??

Plans for 2 post Lift ?? I'd sure plan deeper spots for those.

I like a hard troweled finish inside but prefer and would suggest brushed or exposed aggregate outside for traction.

Thanks everyone... the approach will be brushed for traction, just the inside hard troweled. The heaviest thing I own today is a skid steer and CUT John Deere so I think 5" will be more than sufficient.

Good spec for use and good price.

Make sure ground prep is done well. This is very important. Roller not plate tamper uless its one of the monster reversible types.

See if they will sawcut joints in the next day which is easier anyway that hand tooled cj's. Easier to wheel things around

That's less than I'd do it for, and I'm in WI as well.

I highly recommend traps on the floor drains to keep critters and cold air out.

It was defiantly cheaper because the guy that helped build my barn with me is good friends with the finisher, and I also worked along with them, prepping, cutting wire mesh, laying vapor barrier, and worked with the 3 of them the day of the pour.

x2 with it being a cheap price. usually 5 to 10 bucks a square foot is were most bids would fall into. but the bigger the project you can still make money doing it slightly cheaper. if its a fairly small job then the price will be more per sq. ft. since you cant hardly make money doing it for cheap.

I just got a quote - in southwestern VT - for a FAR smaller space (750sf) and the contractor wanted $2700 to just manage the pour and finish the floor... the price assumed we would have the space ready and fairly level.

So my guess is that's a pretty good price - and a really nice sized space.

Is the price too good to be true? Are you getting what you're actually paying or getting what you need? What are you giving up, quality, price or time?

That is a good price. I'm having my driveway concreted this week. It's a total of 4735sqft or 58yds of concrete for $21,500.
