Anyone watch this latest video from Scanner Danner? It's a great watch....(
)

I have a couple quick questions about this one. The first is about the CKP sensing on this engine. Up until now, I always thought that the CKP sensor took its information from the harmonic balancer or timing gear. If I'm understanding this video correctly, this particular engine takes it's information for the CKP sensor from the flywheel? Why the change? Seems like an odd place to put it.....way back there.

So, the problem with this engine is that the CKP sensor is receiving the info from the flywheel that is not in synch with the cam gear. Can you actually physically change these cam gears to match the older flywheel and is it only one or both on the V6 that need to be changed? Or do you have to change the flywheel? I assume that doing either would work theoretically but the cam gear is easier to change?

Chrysler has had the vast majority of their crank sensors back at the flywheel for decades. Different manufacturers just do things differently I guess.

Having it at the flywheel has the advantage of more granularity (lots more trigger points due to the greater circumference) but the disadvantage of being difficult to access in a non transverse layout.

And yeah - common on Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, etc.
