I am now forced retired. Had a Dr.s visit awhile back that didn't go my way. Was given the news no one wants to hear so here I am.
Started out buying a walker turner drill press and moved to a lathe then a horizontal mill and now a Bridgeport. Told my wife I'm going down swinging and started my own little metal shop. Restoring anything I can get my hands on or whoever will bring me stuff. Mostly vises. Oh how I love restoring old broken down vises. Working on a wilton, parker and a Holland while trying to get the Bridgeport finished painting so I can make more vise stuff. Glad to be here and hopefully will be here for a long time!!2949401b-ae77-4121-a5b9-0487b252b36f.jpg

Welcome to the Forum from Southwestern California. I too was forced into retirement, but at my age it wasn’t a bad thing.

I am presently making Planter Boxes and a local nursery is selling them. I put them on Consignment and allow the nursery to pay me after they are sold.

The nursery has told me they get requests for Window Boxes; a quick Google Search showed me how simple they will be to make.

My tools and equipment were acquired over the years. I did recently replace my air compressor.

Fortunately i don’t have to sell my products in order to buy groceries, my day to day expenses are covered by other income.

Welcome!
Retired and spend my time making and building things, but my real passion is refurbishing shop equipment.
Here’s some Bridgeport incentive for you. I bought 5, picked the best one for myself, then sold off the rest. I ended up with this one completed with a new DRO for roughly net zero dollars out of pocket.
Enjoy your shop time and retirement!E4B95FFD-A5A9-444B-BFB9-257A99566401.jpeg

Welcome from western Nevada.

I'm 68, retired a little more than a year ago.

Recently bought some farm land in Fallon NV., so I guess I'm not actually retired........lol.
Sounds like me. Having land is a full time job. My saying is " I wish I had a job so I could get weekends off ".

Have fun.

Outstanding job on your mill. I hope mine turns out like that. I decided to go with a almond color for my Bridgeport. Mainly because I painted my horizontal mill almond.
I decided when I got it home I was going to restore it before putting it in to service. If I didn't it would have ended up like my lathe, still not restored. Im using it everyday, but at some point, ill just have to take it out of service for awhile.20250424_132950.jpg

Yes sir, I've come to terms with it. Going to play as hard as I can for as long as I can. Wife's giving me **** about turning our garage into a metal shop. But I think she's happy to see me happy.

Doc was pretty brutal about my time on earth, but I've got 16 months past what he said and Im feeling pretty good right now.
I set the family down and told them I'm not going through chemo and will go out with my boots on. Doing some home treatments and for now.....I'm doing pretty good!!!

I have a friend right now taking some kind of dog wormer medicine. I guess it shrinks up the tubules on the cancer cells and they die out. Apparently has little to no side effects on humans. He got the info from a customer at the dealership he works at. She went from wheelchair bound to gardening out in the yard again. Here's one article of many you can find......https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11506385/
