Camouflage paint - suggestions?

I have an old pickup truck I've considered throwing some camouflage paint on. Budget is important, and I don't need it to be "nice", aside from being properly masked so I don't have overspray blocking my lights/windows.
:lol_hitti

I looked at camouflage wraps, but they aren't cheap. Any better suggestions than rattle cans and homemade stencils?

It's easy to just start with a solid camo color, complete coverage, but decent quality paint from a paint store. There are economy lines that can be had in single stage with added flattener to dull the shine down (satin). Then you can purchase the same paint but in pint cans and with a simple detail gun you could go from there, whether you go military or something along the lines of stenciling, you can do pretty much whatever over the base color.
As far as masking, while you are at the paint store, buy an 18" roll of green masking paper, 3 rolls of 3/4" tape and 1 roll of 2" tape. This paper will ensure that if paint gets a little thick anywhere it won't bleed through to what you're covering. Disassemble most things like door handles, weather strip, etc... This will better cover any tape lines or the old color.
Alot of people don't realize that the paint store has reasonable prices on most basic stuff, as well as people who can tell you everything you need to know. If they don't, find another store to buy from.
I don't work for a paint store, but instead paint cars at my own shop.
I'm all for helping people learn to do it themselves.

^^^^Tell me that's a stripe of camo duct tape? Because it would be cooler if it was:rocker:

Back to the OP. My buddy has done some amazing camo jobs with rattle cans. Prep work is still important if you want it to look "nice" and last longer than a few months without peeling. I dont think you need to go full tilt, but knocking the clear coat off and degreasing it will go a long way towards longevity.

I used krylon too. Make sure you sand the poop out of it. And make sure the bodies not cold. Or it will flake

I remember in my teens my uncle took his old hunting truck and painted it camo. He grabbed some leafy tree branches and some fern leaves or whatever was on the property that looked like interesting foliage to him and piled it up. Then he would grab a spray can of one color and hold the branch up over the truck somewhere and spray over it. Then grab something different and maybe a different color then spray over that. It would leave the pattern of the fern or whatever he sprayed over of course. He just mixed and matched changing the orientation and overlap to taste. As redneck as it was, I gotta say it looked really neat when he was done.

Lots of guys are using BEHR house paint on military trucks. Honest! I am on Steelsoldiers.com. Lots of Info there, including color mixing. So far it seems to be OK. Lots easier than CARC.

Lots of the Jeep guys reccomend the Gillespie paint. I think it's an enamel that can be purchased in rattle can form. It's a bit more expensive but apparently goes on with less streaking and is more durable.

Yes, I highly recommend Gillespie paint, they manufacture both CARC and non CARC paint for the military. I buy gallon cans from my army surplus for around $45. Its only $30ish online but I don’t know about shipping.
If you read my posts in the thread in my sig line it will tell you most anything you need to know.

If anyone is a member of jeep forum, please post something(nice) in my thread to bump it.
