Started with this and ended up with a frame, it’s sat like this frame for almost two years

All in all I broke even. It was $200 and I found a B&W turnover ball in the storage area

Anyway I got talked into turning it into a trailer to use for sxs or a few atvs or something. Nothing heavy as I know it’s not designed for any real weight.

Plan of attack. Torch off all the stuff that’s not needed, next I’ll use some 2x2 angle to widen out the trailer deck. I’ll attach one piece horizontally and then another piece to the bottom of the beam and edge of the horizontal piece, To form a triangle. I plan next to build an outer frame to hold the deck boards on using some 2x2 angle again.

Next I need to address this mess

My idea is to flow the red lines and taper down the tip deck and attach what’s needed for a real goose neck receiver. I’m debating weather I try and bend the two existing rails in to center after cutting out the **** or so I just hack it off and plate the outside of what’s left.

There will be some plates going on the vertical beams that hold the tongue. 3/8 steel is my plant and some 45degree angles. Not real science here but looking for ideas or a better direction.

Here it sits today

If I look any more I will want one.

What ya want more of? The torch set I got board and polished all the victor handle or the trailer?

I purchased the whole thing delivered to my yard, for the fridge inside. The ol boy wouldn’t let me come get just the fridge so... I ended up with a turd and a fridge his crack head kid had pulled and cut copper out of.

Figured make the best of it. And since I converted my enclosed trailer into a camp trailer I can’t use it much for anything but dirtbikes and sleepin

bigdave,

06 or 07 Chevy?
Keeping the 5th wheel or going to gooseneck?
My vote is for 17.5" rims.

07 classic chevy,

I will be switching it to a goose neck. Keeps people around here from borrowing or helps filter out stupid folks.

What do you I think would be gained by the larger tires? I know tire options get better after 15” but I’m not sure I want to up the investment

The box on top will hit my cab supports if I forget it’s there. I’d rather keep it so I can’t.

I’ll leave a binder basket and chain or room for a spare tire up on top. I don’t really have any need of more storage space on the trailer.

I figure the most it will see is two sxs or a few atvs

I have an 07 and longer gooseneck too. Wish my 07 looked as nice as yours.

Why the larger rims and tires?
For me less flat tires, as I am not a fan of flat tires... guess I have had to many and would rather spend my time having fun or relaxing.
Shop around, it was like $75 more for me to switch to 17.5" with rims than to swap all four to the higher rater 16" tires. (you do have 8 on 6.5" bolt patter, no?)

Are we talking trailer rims/wheels? Or truck wheels?

Well seems how the trailer came with these tires and wheels I don’t think I will be changing. Can’t even honestly tell you what size tires are on it.

Is what it is until I need it to be otherwise

My neighbor turned camp trailer into car hauler. He boxed both frame rails as well as adding a piece along top rail and doubled up all crossmembers. Total of 1100 pounds steel added to make the unit safely carry 7000lbs.
There is nothing to those frames as they are not designed as flat beds.

I need to get back at the trailer here pretty quick. Apparently metal prices are going through the roof also along with wood

I think I’ll do some added metal to the deck and see what rolls out.

I need to get the front finished is my next target

The simple end of this thread.
I decided after a work trailer towing experience that I no longer had the desire to build this out. The ol farmer behind me now has the title and the trailer and I was able to finish up my RV pad in a much more pleasing manner then road base.

the new truck bed depth was to tall causing the next to wrest in flat ground on my tailgate. I don’t have the time or energy to finish this project. Others can benefit more From my focus

reinforce where needed and recommend running trailer wires in some kind of tubing for extra protection
