Campell Hausfeld 20 gallon replacement tank

My 34 year old Craftsman compressor operates fine but the tank has developed the inevitable pin hole leak near the drain valve. This CH tank is reasonably priced and while I'm sure I could make it work, I was hoping to find some dimensional information on the mounting plates that just doesn't seem to be out there. Has anyone had success using one of these to replace a tank of a different brand?

Make your own mounting plate that bolts to the tank's mounting plates.

^^^cut the mounting plate off of your existing compressor, weld or bolt to the new flange(not the tank)

Yea I'm sure I can do something with the motor mount bracket. I'm a little concerned about having to make a custom tube to go from pump head into tank. I think that's steel tubing and around 1/2 inch diameter. Probably not easy to bend or maybe with a conduit bender?

original is probably aluminum. sometimes they have weird ends on them that I've not been able to figure out what they are . but a new line in soft copper & flared or compression fittings will work fine

Thanks! I was just looking at some photos of older compressors and noticed the piping looked like copper.

It may require buying a new check valve and some fittings but the discharge line is easily replaceable with copper tube with a 45* flare. The aluminum line on yours appears to have compression fittings. Either way it wouldnt be hard to adapt a pump/motor to another tank.

I have actually used the discharge line off a semi air compressor on the one compressor I have (CH tank & motor, Eaton pump), it's a stainless braided line flare on both ends.

Thanks guys. I was pleasantly surprised that CH e-mailed me blue prints for the tank and mount brackets upon request. If anyone would like copies, let me know. I'll post progress on the swap over once I get started.

So I had the thing on order for 3 weeks and heard nothing from vendor. Called them up, "we don't know when they'll be in". I called CH and as they are in the middle of merging with (being taken over by) MAT, production of the tanks has stopped and won't re-start until August. I found one place that had a few in stock but quoted $540 shipping from Utah to CT. I told them there had to be a mistake; I could get a 70 lb box of that size shipped for $300 less. "Well this is the freight carrier we have to use".... Uh, no thanks...
There doesn't seem to be anyone else making a reasonably priced 20 gallon horizontal replacement tank.

Here are some photos of the old tank cut open. I wonder how long before it went ka-boom? Some very deep pitting in there and one spot had already been (badly) welded up years ago. I must have done that years ago before I knew any better...
