Camry axle nut

There was a thread on here about axle nut sizes, I think, but today I was rotating tires on wife'c 05 Camry and checked the axle nut size. As near as I can tell, it takes a 30mm 12 point deep socket. I could barely get a standard depth 30mm to engage. No problem for me, I hope, as I don't forsee doing a CV joint job on it soon.

Don't remember if this was included in earlier thread.

On my dads '02 camry, one side had a 30mm nut and the other was 32mm nut. Obviously a CV had been replaced by the previous owner with a spurious part. A deep socket is a must!

Same as many VWs and Audis, covered.

The Camry takes a special Axle nut socket and also uses a locking tang to secure it. You can purchase the socket and modified chisel for displacing the Tang from several sources online.

12pt 30mm deep impact socket is what you need.

IIRC the nut is a non reuse item, although new cv will most likely have a new nut on it.the other thing to watch,make sure the locking/staking tab is 100% unseated.

I bought a 12 point deep 30mm socket from Cornwell just for that purpose. I always unstake the nut with a small chisel.

Some aftermarket axles or reman axles come with a different size nut for whatever reason. Pretty annoying.
