Can a Duro-Indestro Enthusiast Explain This One?

Now I will readily admit to being exceptionally cheap as to what I'm willing to pay for most of the ratchets that I obsess... er, "collect", but can someone more knowledgeable about Duro-Indestro explain the end result for this one?

Is that really a relatively hard-to-find 1/4" ratchet, or just 2 bidders that really wanted it? I'm used to seeing some certain older ratchets go for pretty stiff bids (IH, the rare old Vlchek, the not-so-rare Craftsman speed-ratchet, etc), but this one surprised me.

I've got that one, in better shape.

And only paid about $3 for it!

Also have it in Indestro Select.

I'd say a combination of two bidders, and the fact it's 1/4". I don't believe that style of 1/4" is all that common, so if there's two bidders who are both collecting and need that particular one, it multiplies the price.

Considering they are long out of production, probably a bit worn, slightly obscure without being overly rare, and have no warranty, the Duro/Indestro stuff sells for a decent price, but still not that expensive - lots of ratchets in the $10-20 range, sometimes with sockets included. The only stuff I've seen go for much more than that was Wizard branded, which seems to always sell for significantly more than an identical Indestro brand item for some reason.

All of the 1/4" drive stuff seems to be more rare and more expensive than their 3/8" and 1/2" cousins, which are typically fairly cheap. I've got a 1/4" round head, and it's really nice.

...and for what it's worth, the Duro/Indestro ratchets make rather good collectors items in some ways, as the round head models in particular had quite a few variations of different handles, selector heads, and markings. I don't collect them, I just happen to like the look and feel of the round head Indestros.

For wrenches, I think the less interesting markings and appearance takes away from collector interest, and the open ends are a bit large and beams a bit thin for a real vintage tool user following.

i think it was the bidders. when i was trying to buy jerryw his secret santa gift, i got into a bidding war on a pwa ratchet. I knew he collected, so i tried to find a "rare" ratchet that he may not have. i got out of it at 50 and if memory serves me it sold for 85 plus shipping.

i dont collect ratchets. so in my head i had no clue if it was "worth" it or not. i guess if you want/need something--it is.

sorry jerry--you got stuck w/ the tq wrench instead.

it always takes two bidders to get a price. but really, an open head indestro ratchet in 1/4 drive? that model is a little scarce imop. not cheap but not off the chart if you really wanted one.

I like indestro, but that is just silly got to have it now. I always say this" it is not the last one, there are more". I watched my missing 1/2" indestro combo wrench fetch 20.11 I passed. That wrench is missing from EVERY single damn set I have ever seen:( any way it came down to two people throwing dollar bills away IMO

Funny I would not have guessed that the ratchet would go for that high a price. I collect the sockets and there is not much of a demand in Duro-Indestro tools.

Not a problem, I appreciate the time someone put into the carrycase and the tq wrench.

I really appreciate the effort that you put in to find it.

+1, I've never seen that style in 1/4". I have two of the 1/2" and one 3/8" that was my fathers. His 1/4" were the closed head design.
