This is listed on the local CL and the owner has no information on them. I don't recognize them but I'm no expert. I would like to track down info like dimensions and model numbers first since it's a pretty long drive and a ferry ride to pick them up. Looks like a fun resto project. Thanks for any help.

That is a fairly rare and unique box.
It may not even need a " restoration " possibly just a through cleaning and buff out the paint ?

All the info you want is in this thread.

How much are they asking for it ?
If you do purchase it post some better pics when you get it .
If you choose to restore it take before and after pics and post them.

i don't know the model number, but its from '66 or '67. Not made for very long at all. Search those year catalogs on collecting old snap on. com. SO was very proud of those when they came out. I don't dig the wood grain, but if the guy isn't out of the ball park on price, grab it. From what I hae seen that was the first double bank ever made by SO, I want to say around 40" x 18". There are one or two member's who have one.

Well rats, I expressed my interest very quickly after the ad was posted but before I was able to act on it he had traded it to somebody for a laptop. His asking price in the posting was a measly $200 I'm really sorry I missed out on this one.

Thanks for the information.

Don't feel bad, I missed a real nice one for $300 earlier this year. :(

That box looks a lot rougher in the large pic than it did in the small ones from the original seller's CL add.

No casters ?
I see a few other small issues , bottom looks repainted, no Snap On emblem on bottom box , emblem on top box is wrong , drawer trim was added to the top / middle as well.

It looks like it is still in decent shape and would be a good candidate for a restoration ......... if the price was right.

The current seller has been on GJ as he " borrowed " a pic of the box Ramblur restored and used it in his CL add with text added to it.

He doesn't list an asking price but since he wants to trade for a 40MPG car or motorcycle he probably thinks it is worth more than it is.

Why don't you contact him to see how much ca$h he wants for it ?
If he is really high just wait.

BTW posting these adds on here is not a good idea if your interested in the item as someone from here may just beat you out on the sale.

This box recently sold on eBay for $1501.00
The seller was willing to ship it and it was mentioned on here so the extra exposure probably bumped up the sale price.

Thanks for all the great info. I don't mind posting the ad because if somebody from here gets it, and restores it, that would make me happy. The original ad I contacted the seller before I posted it here and had reached a deal but it was traded out from under me before I could get there... which is OK, it happens.

But now, it's going to be more than $2-300 clearly because I think the seller thinks he has a several thousand dollar item and it's clearly out of my hobbyist price range. I was going to try to and fix it up and use it myself mostly for the act of having something I did myself and was proud of it. It would have taken me most likely a pretty long time to get it where I wanted it.

Whatever happens with it, I hope somebody gets it at a fair price and can lovingly restore the old beauty to its former glory.

Those are sweet boxes, but I would have to take that stupid wood trim off. That is just a style that is before my time and I don't feel it at all. The purest would probably hate me for repainting both banks red too.

I like the look of the grey and red with the wood trim, the black and red is nice aswel but really needs something in between the back and red just to break the colours. Its deffinitly a love or hate it style but I honestly can't understand why they don't make more of the old style boxes today, old boxes like this one and others of its era to me have a certain look that new boxes don't have.

As I said in an earlier post it would be cool if a company released new old style toolboxes.
