Kerosene tank it could be for a stove or a freestanding heater. My folks had a heater that used a very similar tank to fuel it. Usually worked very well and not a lot of leakage if you go the cap on tight. It does not dispense fuel unless the plunger is pushed in and then air is let in and fuel comes out. If the lid is loose it flows kerosene all the time. Now days you have to take the entire heater outside to fill the tanks, back then they could be filled and brought into the stove.. Much safer now with all the spills outside instead of inside.
