Does anyone know how to date an E. C. Stearns & Co. C-Clamp? Is it possible to do by the logo/lettering position and style (stamped vs. cast)?
This huge old clamp (19.5 inches long!) was hanging in my Dad's garage since I was a kid. Now I am 56 and decided it was time it was put back into working order again.
I am looking for any help in dating this clamp. I see the 12 inch steel shaft model sold in a 1924 catalogue, but the lettering on mine is straight line vs. the double lines in the catalogue. I suspect the catalogue may be showing the clamps that were stamped with the company name (?). Mine has the words as part of the casting.
Pics of before and after.
