Can anyone help identify this tool?

I found this tool in the garage and cannot figure out what it is.

I have tried to include pictures of the tool - hope that worked.

It is marked COMPANION Made in USA on the top.
There is a number on the side - I think it is 3681
It also has instructions to Pry Open
On the bottom of the tool, there are two prongs that I assume are to keep some kind of material from moving.

any information would be greatly appreciated

I can't tell from the pictures but Companion was another brand carried by Sears, they had the brand as a lesser cost alternative to Craftsman.

Maybe a sand paper holder, missing a foam pad that would go between those metal points? Does it have a clamping function to hold the paper?

Thank you for replying.
I thought it looked like some kind of wood-finishing tool.
There does not seem to be any way to anchor a sheet of sandpaper other than getting it crimped in the hinge joints at either end.
I guess I will put it in the 'beats me' pile.

Looks more like a case that sockets would go into. I've got a set of "Companion" brand deep metric sockets - I mistakenly bought them without realizing they were not Craftsman. Given how little I use metric sockets, not a big deal
