Hello everyone. We have a neighbor who is recently widowed and we went over today to let her chickens out while she was camping. I saw this compressor she had outside that was her husband's and now she is selling it. She had it in a garage sale she had a couple of weeks ago. It caught my attention right away. It is 220 volt, looks to be in ok shape but I know nothing about old compressors. She has $45 on it and I am wondering if it is worth asking her about. Again she wasn't home to talk to her about and I don't want to bring it up unless I can get some more info on this piece. If you can ID it and tell me it is a good deal I may then proceed to buy it from her. Thank you all.

$45. won't buy a POS oil less compressor, so no brainer there. Looks suspiciously like a Kellog American to me, if it is it's an awesome compressor that will likely outlast you. Look for a tag right where the cooling fins meet the crankcase.

Thank you guys that have posted so far, please keep the info coming, I just talked to our neighbor about it, her husband had bought it to use but passed away before being able to use it so she has no idea if it runs or not. I figured for $45 I can't lose. She is less than a mile away so I just have to pick up at some point this week.

I can't ID the compressor, but I agree that it's well worth the gamble for $45. A 5hp 1 phase 17xxrpm motor is well worth the $45 alone if it works.

I would get it already .... $45?!!! ?

It looks more like campbell like Mac said. That's not a Kellog for sure. Kellog 5hp pumps (i.e. 335) are stubby looking with same centrifugal unloader connected to the head ..... However, Kellog has disc valves and you can tell that there are four distinct valve.

This pump resemble of having reed valves (looks like plates).

Oh yeah, I do feel good about it, our neighbor's husband was an electrical engineer at the local power station, she said he wouldn't buy junk, he knew quality items.
