I bought this press maybe 10 years ago for about $50. Have used it only a couple of times.(I am not a very serious DIYer).
I do not see any markings on it other than a #5 on the collar that holds the table. The motor does not even have any name or numbers on it.
I do not imagine it is a great drill press, but wanted to know who made it and when. The head cover is metal instead of plastic so maybe not too cheap or new. I hope it is old enough to qualify being in the vintage section. I apologize if it is too new.

I am a new member who sees a number of items discussed here that I too have picked up over the years. I find the vintage tool threads fascinating and am fighting the urge to start collecting old tools. (That would be another collection in addition to the many antique categories I already have!) So I am well acquainted with the "sickness".

I am attempting to read many of the past threads, skipping some that do not interest me. The amount of information here is amazing. I hope to be a positive addition to the group.
I am thinking of restoring a Prentiss Bull Dog vise that I bought a while back. I have no experience, so it would be an interesting project for me.

Any other members in SW Virginia- Roanoke?

By the way, I have seen people say that you have to have 5 posts before you can add photos. I responded to on earlier post(my first) and was able to add photos. I am uploading photos for this post also, so not sure that the 5 post requirement is true. If photos show up on this, my second post, then it is not a requirement.

Thanks,
Nick

That is a decent looking DP. It is imported and not that old but it has the looks of one of the better made ones. The table lift, dual cap motor, better looking chuck, and other things seem to be a step above the bottom of the heap. It should serve you well.

I have a Craftsman DP that is almost identical (mine has a square table). I got it cheap from a neighbor about 10 years ago, and it's been treating me well ever since.

Yes, generic Chinese. But it's a decent enough press.

Thanks guys. I figured with no markings it was not a great press. For the limited amount of stuff I use it for it should suffice.

My little $40-at-the-time HF drill press has been just fine since day 1. Well, I had to replace the chuck after a few years because the gear broke. Otherwise, it's worked every time I needed it. It's underpowered, but I knew that. Still, I use it for drilling pilot holes so I don't have to change the belts around on the big drill press.
