I have this old box, bought it about 5 years ago for $50. Doesn't have any markings on it that I can find. It seems pretty solid. Just kind of curious what it is.
Beach? It's pretty cool, do those bins on the side tilt out? I wonder if that was factory, or shop made? Wheel setup is different, looks like it would roll nice. Do those large wheels protrude into the lower cabinet?
Jim
The handles don't slide out. The box measure 18" deep, 36" wide not including the handles, and ~36" tall. The little side cubbies come all the way out and have dividers.
My guess is MBC. To me it has a similar look as a kr300 rolls bench. Also it has some of the odd touches like the larger wheel that is along the the lines that SO had.
Ah, I remember seeing one of those before now with the tilt out sides. Huot might be it. Take a closer picture of the slide, specifically of the stop portion.
I did a search for toolboxes, and this has the drawer behind the cabinet front, and is very similar as to how the front stores. The pic is tagged as an older Kennedy box, but it is noticeably smaller. The pic also links back to Garage Journal. I don't know how the toolbox manufacturers fastened handles on back in the day, but I've never seen any that used pop rivets, which yours looks to be pop riveted, which leads me to believe the handles may have been replaced at one time
ZK: i thought it looked like a Huot when i first saw it, but FJ's comment that it might be a Blackhawk had me looking at my old Blackhawk box. here's a picture of my Blackhawk top box which has the stoutness of BD's cool roller. you make the call since you are the go to guy for most of these old boxes and i'm just posting a picture so you don't have to look it up.
BD: i think that's the first box that I've seen with the caster up inside the bottom of the box and those cool side pop open drawers. very nice.

I saw that too. I've never seen factory pop rivets on handles, and there's no way a factory would let parts with pop rivets leave, if some still have the nail inside, and some don't.
That doesn't mean that the handles are not original. Perhaps they were removed for repainting.
Those boxes with the rounded corners and/or cute built-ins were popular in the '40s-50s. There were larger commercial "Service Centers" sold to gas stations and automotive shops. The explanation I've heard is after WWII ended, there was a surplus capacity of steel stamping capacity and everything, including kitchen sinks and cabinets, were being formed of steel and sold to the civilian market.
I've never been able to confirm the provenance of this bottom box; only that it's old and was used hard in an industrial environment.
